I was looking to transfer all my credits to Universida del Valle. But im having a diffuculty making up my mind if i should go to colombia and continue my study or stay here in USA and go to another school and continue my study and then go live in colombia and work over there. College in Colombia I think it would be better to try a way to find if your school has a semester abroad program, a way in which you can go to Colombia for a year or so and have your credits accounted for. I think it is better to graduate from the US. I am also trying to do the same thing. Actually trying to see If Los Andes will accept my credits from Palm Beach Atlantic University... I study Political Science.

Kiki I used to take Politics, Economics and philosophy in the UK, moved here and I was told by admissions in Los Andes that I could get credits and all that stuff. When I got here however, they had my schedule all done and told me I had been placed in first year, which is the basic year. (Bummer because I was intended to start 2nd year according to what I was told, and thats what I applied for). They dont convalidate anything unless youve completed 4 semesters or something like that, just make sure you keep every thing they send you.
Good Luck.

... Gildardo,

As kiki wrote, it would be better to finish your degree in the US. However, if you do it right, you could probably spend quite some time studying in Colombia. In my case, I think my university required my last 15 or 30 hours of credit to be taken there to get a degree in their name.

Anyway, I studied in Bogota for a year and took several engineering courses (two civil), for which I got credit from my US university. What you really need to do is have these courses pre-approved by your uni and find a Colombian program that is ABET approved. In 98-99, Los Andes and La Javeriana were the only universities in Colombia to have this approval.

I can't stress the ABET approval enough. Without it, I would never have had my work recognized back home.
