Nope, poorer girls can afford to go to college to. Only public universities though, you see the cost of the semester in university depends on two main factors: your social strata and the school you are coming from.

My Sister In law in Medellin goes to a nice University im told and she is broke and does not pay but she had to have perfect grades to get in. She is in a nursing program.

EAFIT is like the NYU of Medellin, if you got money they love you. Universidad de Antioquia on the other hand is like Columbia University of Medellin... you actually have be smart to attend. Poorer girls do go to EAFIT but most likely on a scholarship.
