Guys, I'm looking for contacts of colleges, schools and universities in Cartagena and
Medellín which teach English and which might hire English, Computing or Law instructors.
I'm a native English speaker but only speak rudimentary Spanish. Thanks!!

There are 3 institutions that I know of that may be of interest to you

Colegio Jorge Washington. An american style international school.

British School ( may be called Colegio Britanico) It was just starting when I was there 18 years ago but was intended to be a British style school.

Centro Colombo Americano. Teaches english to adults (largely)

You will need some sort of teaching accreditation to be able to get a visa

In Colombia there aren't really any 4 year colleges, there are only Universities, all have 5 year programs or longer.
Having clarified that, here are some universities in Medellin that may be interested in your qualified services:

EAFIT University
www.eafit.edu.co
They have excellent programs for software engineering, etc., also good languages school

UNIVERSIDAD DE MEDELLIN
www.udem.edu.co
Good law school

UPB
www.upb.edu.co
Good law school, they also have languages school

These are private universities

Cartegena I'd love to give Cartagena a try. I know it is more expensive and it is a risk, but what the hell you only live once.

Anyway, in regard to English teaching. I have been a teacher in Latin America for 5 years now. The best advice I can give is to get certified. It will help you get a job faster and help you to learn how to teach grammar and conversation. Colombians are no longer dazzled by having a native speaker as a teacher. If anything, they expect more from you and believe me most Colombian / Brazillian teachers can kick my ass in the classroom beause they have really had to learn the grammar and the rules to speak properly.

I remember there was this American guy or Canadian guy in my school once and he thought he was really shit hot because he was a native speaker. Man, his students tore him up with their questions and he had to ask one of the Colombian teachers to come in and explain a grammar point. Embarrassing? So, get certified before you embark on your journey. It is money well spent.

Thanks
Shaner.
I got my TEFL in Guadalajara, Mexico. Many beautiful girls there. I had a great time.

Yup

ColombiaBoard and Shane, thanks!!

Shane, I'm actually very much au fait with the English grammar because I learned it myself (I had to
because it makes it a helluva lot easier to learn other languages if you know your own grammar).
Nevertheless, I'm doing a TEFL course now just so I have a certification. Plus I have experience
teaching English and computing to people although not at an education institution as such (but at
a private company).

I'm sure Mexican girls are nice but nothing comes close to Colombianas... - well, maybe Brazilian
ladies but Colombianas rock! :)

Mexican chicks hate gringos. And there if they use the word gringo, it's because they hate your guts. Even more than Nato hates gringos.
The only reason they'd put your verga in their mouths is so they could bite it and chew it up like an Oscar Meyer's weiner. The only Mexican chicks who like gringos are prostitutes who make money off the gringo losers. The internet is great. You can make all these idiotic generalizations. I love it.

Teaching in colombia - jobs I am very interested in teaching in Colombia with no preference of the location. However, i would be very interested in positions in Bogota and Cartagena.

i am a qualified language and TEFL lecturer with many years experience in the classroom. I speak Spanish fluently and have no impediment to relocate.

I would be grateful if you could forward the names and addresses of any colleges, academies or other institutions where perhaps my skills could be used.

Many thanks.
