Coconuco, 3 hours from Cali

Not only have I just visited Popayan for the first time having lived in Cali for 6 years ( or 7 can't remember) wow what a beautiful city, clean, quiet, colonial, I was aware of the history re; origins, earthquake etc etc, but it really reminded me of Ecuador, a little fresher than Cali, fewer chicas plasticas, fewer money orientated showoffs in Lexus road monsters much more green space, however I am aware that Cauca is a little more "caliente" than el valle re, bandidos, nevertheless it was very interesting to see many more soldiers heavily armed with shiny automatic machine guns ( I'm no expert but rambo came to mind!) these guys are a bit different than the teenagers that unconvincingly almost timidly patrol Ave sexta here in Cali with wooden sticks.
So from the terminal( Popayan) take a bus 3.000 pesos to pueblito Coconuco then a jeep 1.500 pesos to the Termales, what a great gig, spectacular view of the mountains. Although very busy and much more basic than Santa Rosa de Cabal and San Vicente close to Pereira, its a must weekend trip if in Cali. It's a great experience sitting in very hot water looking up at mountains that almost overwhelm you and every now and then waiting for five minutes while the cold rain drifts down giving you relief from the hot volcanic water, then the sun comes out and your back to poaching yourself slowly with the almost nauseous odor of sulphur, I loved it

Camp, I love that place. Did you take any pictures I'd LOVE to see them. I thought Coconucos was off limits for guerrilla activity. There's a mountain path from the springs to the village and there's a big rock poised on the side of the path, when you climb to the top of that rock and look down in the valley in front of you and the central range beyond you feel like you were on the top of the world, it's great.
