All my years in Colombia and I have never been to a cockfight here. Are there cockfights in Colombia?

BillBigD says on May 20, 2008, 18:13: IMO there is a huge difference between a cockfight and a dogfight. Cockfight is quite common in Mexico

slguy says on May 20, 2008, 18:18: from my perspective, blood sports are blood sports - bulls, dogs, chickens, whatever. Before you throw me out, make sure I pay my bar tab 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

CatGirl says on May 20, 2008, 18:29: Slgy... I´m with you on this one. It´s all a bloodsport and although I am not a FEMA freak and believe in the ways of the pioneer to kill for your next meal. This to me is usually bad news all around....even when it is legal. Love and Time: the only two things that cannot be bought, but only spent 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

CatGirl says on May 20, 2008, 20:51: Mr H: I am sure it is....but when you watch it from behind the scenes and in the trenches - makes you think. The Fighting Cock's that this couple (husband/wife team) bred and trained were shipped out of the country. In fact, that was one of their "fake" incomes/businesses...shipping! Somewhere ... in Northern California ...in no man's land Marin County...- there's a treasure buried in the ground, waiting to be dug up. jeeje. All was from illegal activites (not just Cock fighting) Love and Time: the only two things that cannot be bought, but only spent 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

webmanco says on May 20, 2008, 20:54: cockfight places are known as galleras, and about dog fights, I didn´t like to much watching Amor de Perros, a Mexican movie dogfigthing and betting related. animal cruelty makes me sad. ...A yo, déjenme queto y no me jodan má! ... 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Mr. Hollywood says on May 20, 2008, 20:55: CatGirl, I'm not a proponent, just observing that the "sport" is totally above ground in Colombia.

bufalo says on May 20, 2008, 21:47: They're all over the place. My wife and I went to one in the mountains outside of Armenia, walked there through the forest with only the moon lighting us. Afterwards the store (only thing at the crossroads) became a mini-disco. Danced all night with the local campesinos. While on a breather outside (mini-Tejo court too) I saw lights racing toward us and thought "now this can't be good". It was the army and shut the place down, I forget why, but it was a real minor reason. We then had to find our way back to the farm. kalder says on May 21, 2008, 00:35: Yes, as bufalo says "they're all over the place". My father-in-law used to breed and train them. "kalder- have you ever had a woman?"--Sam Salmon 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Liam101 says on May 21, 2008, 05:45: They are common especially in the more remote pueblos. The only one I saw was in Puerto Inirida in the Guania although many taxi drivers have informed me about others happening in other towns. The one I went to was full of police and military so I don't imagine it was illegal but perhaps regulated in some way.

Catfish35 says on May 21, 2008, 07:58: I love animals....I even cringe when I see an ol sway back mule or horse over in La Mayorista pulling around about 20K pounds of rice or tile or whatever ! I am not against beast of burden or animals for food but I draw the line at obvious abuse or killing for the thrill or to just watch an animal bleed and lose..I rather watch 2 grown humans beat the snot outta each other rather than what they do to animals..I mean just look at what happened to Raaay and how he has turned out from all that!! webmanco says on May 21, 2008, 08:01: It was sad to watch the cockfight where one of the fighter got blind thru the "match", but have to keep going. ...A yo, déjenme queto y no me jodan má! ... 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

CatGirl says on May 21, 2008, 08:07: dwnte: Not sure the purpose of your question? Marin county in Kitty's book is in Northern Ca if you simply seperate Ca as Northern, Central or Southern. Period. That's the gauge I was using.... CA divided into 3 parts only.(Yes, it is in the lower portion of Northern CA...not trying to split hairs here Dw) That's what I meant...Now associate? Not sure why you used that word. Love and Time: the only two things that cannot be bought, but only spent 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

kat1 (Moderator) says on May 23, 2008, 12:59: Monteria used to have lots of cockfights i don't know now, UC might know.. i remember my grandmother's neighbours used to breed those little buggers, they used to wake me up at 4 o'clock in the morning

dwmte7 says on May 23, 2008, 15:18: ah! blood letting in colombia...for what i've seen over the years, it's a multi-faceted national sport. bull fighting; cock fighting; sicarios; farc; paras; et al... dwmte 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Robert Jorge says on May 23, 2008, 17:30: I don't have cats catgirl. No offense, but I look at cats as a sporting target for my vicious blue heeler. I am not a cat guy, and my dog is not tolerant of them either. The cats who spray around my house are my neighbor's cats and strays. I figure, if they got the guts to let their cats roam the neighborhood at night, they then accept the risk their nasty, smelly, spraying, indigenous animal killing creatures are fair game for my cat blood thirsty canine.
