They have caught a US Immigration Agent and his Wife(both of Cali Ancestery) based out of Miami actually traveling to Cali for the sole purpose of selling Fake Visas for $5000 a Pop. After they then would leave Col for Miami(mia) they would be shuttled into this Immigration's Line at the Airport where he and his cohorts would take care of their Visas & passports. No secret on this, it was in the Miami Herald and there was a thread on it here. Some of these Miami Immigration guys aren't exactly what you would call "Altar Boys" and its happened more then once, scenarios like I just mentioned. And his statement "I was in Colombia visiting my girlfriend" but there wasn't anything sexual going on. Yea sure there wasn't,,,LOL

Bufalo--MIA has had like 3 of these Busts at the Airport in about as many years. Like I say, some of these Sworn US Immigration agents aren't what you call Altar Boys or Pillars of the Community, In another case maybe 5 years ago(and posteed here on PBH) a State Dept Employee who maintained a home here in Miami(kendall) , believe she was of Colombian ancestry as well, was nailed for selling Fake Visas to around 20-30 memebers of the FARC. She set up the paperwork as these Farc members passed through Mexico northward to the US. That was probably done to throw the heat off Miami. Authorities became suspicious of her and the Husband after they noticed a $400,000 increase in her Savings account in a short time , much more then she earned with her Federal Salary. Pure Greed(and a dose of stupidity) did her in,,,

After a little look-see into the UC Agents little adventure, a little birdie familiar with the event clarified a lot of question I had after reading the linked story.

Apparently, the ICE agent was given a phone number of some narco provider and tried to arrange some narco purchase from Medellin. ICE only has investigative authority within the US border. There is no such thing as an ICE undercover agent operating within Colombia borders, like this Agent claims.

Well, this Agent has a girlfriend who lives in Medellin. (but they don’t have sex, jajajajja!). The girlfriend is also one of the girlfriends of a narco jefe in Medellin. Imagínate!!!!!!!!!! Narco boyfriend finds out about the gringo agent, but doesn’t know he works for ICE in the US. Agent shows up in Medellin to visit his girlfriend, and his boss doesn’t know he is in Colombia. Narco boys kidnap the Agent and drive him out into the mountains to have a come to jesus talk with him. They probably were going to put him out of his misery. Then the agent squeals like a pig and tells them he is a ICE agent. They confirm this, and bitchslap him a little, and then dump him off onto the streets of Medellin. They never gave him one of their guns, either.

Agent gets a chance to call his boss from Medellin, who responds “WTF!!!???”…….Agent returns to the US, and when the press gets to snooping around, he comes up with the crazy story as printed in the link.

Read what you posted and point out where it says ICE has the authority to conduct UC operations "outside" of the US. They dont do any undercover operations like this agent was saying. They provide logistical and intelligence support to other agencies which do have the authority to conduct US and other operations outside of the country, and even have a branch office in the Embassy, but that is the extent of it. Regardless of what their PR team posts on their website. They are not a hands on team outside of the US. They are not going to infiltrate a drug cartel. They can also participate in joint ventures between law enforcement agencies, but the local agencies do all the groundwork involved in seizure, inspections, etc. =)

Do you know how DEA and other fed leo agencies operate inside of Colombia (excluding the CIA, of course, whose authority goes outside of the US)?

Yes, US intelligence agencies collect, analyze, and forward the information to the hands on local law enforcement, who do the actual seizures, inspections, and arrests. Many times the US agents with authority to operate outside of the US are present during these actions. In the case you mentioned, the Colombian authorities act on information provided by US agencies and hookup the bad guys. The bad guys are then shipped to the US via the extradition process for trial and imprisonment in the US. However, to be fair, the CNP also collect, analyze, and act on information they develop as well.
