hey,
we r planning on going to ciudad perdida on the holy week...since we have a little time...leaving on wednesday morning...anyone has any tips? I heard that the tour with the guide is organised by the hostel in Santa Marta... is there any difference? any good recommandation? what its the price? moreover do u think we need to reserve the trip in advance or its alright to just come the day before? what do we need to bring? what is included in the price? what about mosquito protection? how bad is the mosquito situation? do u know any repelent or something that would work? And what about the hygiene? 6 days in the jungle....Is it better to walk in boots or trecking shoes? and all the answers I might have forgotten to ask...thank you in advance for all the possible info u can provide me with Iva

ixent says on Mar 8, 2008, 11:10: when I did this trip back in 2001 I went with a guide called Wilson, I met him at the Miramar hotel in Santa Marta. It was very well organized, food was included... no complaints. I can't remember how much I paid, it should be ok if you arrive the day before, the price included pretty much **everything** (food, hammocks, the jeeps to El Mamey, and probably a vacuna for the paras in the area haha). For mosquito protection try Citronela, which you can buy at any colombian pharmacy. I don't remember having any particular problems with mosquitos. Hygiene doesn't seem like an issue to me... you get to bathe in the crystal-clear waters of the Rio Buritaca 2-3 times a day. I would take a pair of walking boots and walking sandals. And you sound really worried!!... Don't be, just enjoy it, it's a really great experience...
