Cider

Cider -that delicious alcoholic beverage made from apples- is a firm favourite of mine. Along with its darling pear-based sister, 'perry', you could pour it into me by the bucketload (and watch me collapse or toddle off to start fighting buses).

I know the Spanish brew 'sidra'. But the question, obviously enough here, is- is the stuff produced anywhere in Colombia?

Smell is particulate. If something smells of piss, there's a good chance it'll taste of it too.

But cider is nectar. And therefore neither smells nor tastes like piss.

Humph!

cider is quite popular in argentina, so I would bet it is at least available in Colombia too. It's a very common christmas gift, like pound cake would be in NA.

I'll try it as soon as I forget what kat said about it : )

ozgringo, does she like the Dicken's cider hot or cold? I heard most prefer a hot Dicken's cider.

admittedly, arriving can feel great too

famsearch says on Sep 28, 2007, 21:35:

now hold on a second here. apple cider on it's own has no alcohol, that's why it's sold in grocery stores and such. what i think all of you are talking about is hard cider, where a little bit of yeast has been thrown in, and has been allowed to ferment, and applejack is basically distilled hard cider.

I like strongbow cider.. and traditional (the not-too-sweet-type) apple ciders.

famsearch,
I read that the natural/traditional apple cider was/is fermented on it's own with yeast that naturally occurs in the apples.

no , go to cornwall, south england

PaisaTours.com says on Apr 14, 2008, 17:17:

It's like - is aguardiente produced in Cornwall?

Even if it was would you want to drink it? Likewise Colombian cider - even if it does exist - why bother?

Becuase it is good. Why do Colombians buy Baileys? hmm .. good stuff.

Cider is one of the things I miss most about England... I've killed many a brain cell with a pint or two (...or six)... but I haven't run across cider in Colombia... I don't think they grow apples.

adrimm says on Apr 15, 2008, 06:41:

What we have here is about 7%, but they have one called scrumpy that is 11%... but what I like about it is the flavour.

adrimm says on Apr 15, 2008, 06:43:

Do apples need seasons? I heard that they were growing peaches near Pamplona.. and imho, peachland can also be appleland (climatically), unless the soil is wrong.

jonas says on Apr 15, 2008, 09:37:

no, apples don´t need seasons. They grow apples around Ambato, Ecuador which has a mild climate, maybe 2000m altitude. But the apples are small and expensive. Reason why in Ecuador same as Colombia most apples are imported from Chile. Because apples like seasons. Some Italian geezer explained to me once that apples locally grown in Ecuador are so expansive because they have to pick all the leaves once a year to make the tree believe it is autumn ;-)

What I have, I do not want to lose, but Where I am I do not want to stay, but those I love, I do not want to leave, but those I know I no longer want to see, but Where I die, I do not want to go;I want to stay where I have never been

ColombianoGringo says on Apr 15, 2008, 09:57:

Ha Ha. I had never noticed this old thread with incriminating stories about me.

Morphus, to answer your question, alcoholic cider will tear you up. In England, they mix it with currant juice. The whole concoction tastes like fruit punch and will knock you on your ass.
