CHRISTMAS TIME IN MEDELLIN AND THERE ABOUTS

were comin up on christmas and for those of you who live in medellin and for those who are familiar with christmas there, all will agree, it's just wonderful.

unlike the u.s., they carry on the celebration on into february, whereas here, the 26th of december, the lights come down and it's all piled by the curb as trash???

well, for those of you who find yourselves in medellin over the holidays, may i suggest a visit to por venir. it's on the edge of rio negro on the road out to the medellin airport.

if you go, go about a week--at least--early and you will see the most incredible display of candles you ever imagined. it's is simply out of this world.

the only place i could compare it with is sante fe, new mexico. but the show in new mexico, albiet wonderful, it's just not comparable to what you'll see in porvenir.

take a taxi up for the evening and take advantage of the show, you'll never forget it, ever.

Sounds great, but what is Porvenir? Is it a town? Go a week early - you mean a week before Christmas? or should it be around la noche de las velitas?

POR VENIR roncita (is that your name?)

por venir is a small/medium community on the east edge of rio negro on the way out to the medellin airport. you do know where rio negro is?

i don't know about the noche de las velas...what is that. i do know that the decorations are fresher a bit before christmas. you could call the city hall in rio negro or por venir and find out more.

you will never regret going, in my experiences and travels around the world, i never saw anything to compare.

you can e me off line (dwmte at bellsouth.net) and you can ask questions about the area and i will be glad to elaborate. i lived in los llanos (llano grande) for several years and know and love the area a lot. we're (my wife,a paisa from envigado, our daughter, laura, and myself) are currently living in florida and will return in about a year.

please e me with any further questions. are you living/visiting medellin now?

be well,

d w martin, the elder
