Christian Churches in Medellin?

Does anyone know of any Christian churches in Medellin? I know that this is
predominately a Catholic society, but I heard there were some Christian churches around. Any help would be greaty appreciated.

Thanks,
Will

In Colombia, it has a special meaning that b_p is apparently not clued up on.

Cristiana is an alternative kind of church that is not part of the Catholic organisation. I've never been to one, so I don't know exactly what it is. Maybe evangelical or something?

Yes - non Catholic "Christian" groups have been making huge inroads in Colombia. Try Google to find some of the groups.

I get such a kick out of the missions that go there - they'd be better off heading to their own backyards or europe if they are trying to "bring faith" to the heathens/aetheists.

There is a church on Las Vegas, across the street from a school if i remember correctly in the Poblado area . If you are going North it will be on your right hand side, it is a white building with blue trimming (if you go past Calle10, you've gone too far). To me it looks like a car garage. Services start early, but they have different services through out the day. It is a evangelical church, I have been to a service there before. I think there is a mural of a red heart on the building. I hope this helps!

Pedro, yo supe exactamente lo que estaba diciendo y no me gusta cuando las personas como el crean que ellos son christianos y los catolicos no. Al diablo con el y ellos.

Will,
I believe Antioquia is very catholic oriented, but I am pretty sure there are several Christian churches in Antioquia or Medellin.
Hopefully someone from Medellin would post a helpful answer to your inquire.

I had to laugh when watching the news the other day. The Pope had just made the statement that the "Catholic Church" is the only real church. Wasn't Jesus Jewish? Or did I miss something?

Yes, Jesus was born in Israel and he was sold and crucified by the Christians.

I also do not have enough knowledge to confirm or disagree with your assertion that the Catholic church was the first church? I know for sure that people tend to claim that their religion was or is the first one.

Thanks for all the help. It was in no way my intention to say that Catholics are not Christians. In my opinion, they are Christians. But, there are evangelical Christian churches and then there are Catholic churches. That is all. We are arguing about whether a hamburger with cheese is still really a hamburger. It is, of course; it is just different. That is all.

I think most people understand that Christians = Protestants (mainline, evangelical, charismatic and about everything under the sun) Catholics

Where it gets confusing is in countries like Colombia where even people that went to religious schools say "Christians" to describe someone that is not Catholic. They should be using "Protestants."

Adding fuel to the endless debate was the Pope, who last week reminded everyone that the Catholic Church has always viewed themselves as the only real Christian Church on Earth. He has probably set back years of "reconciliation" and co-communion or inter-communion efforts with the mainline Protestant groups like the Anglicans/Episcopalians and Lutherans.

Edit: since the site eliminates the plus sign for some reason, the first sentence should read: Christians = Protestants plus Catholics

Jesus was betrayed by one of his disciples Jude (Judas) who sold him to Roman solders for 20 pieces of silver. He was tried and comdemned to death by crucifixion by Romans (not Christians or course, the first Christian church had not been founded yet). The first Christian church was probably formed by Jesus' followers and disciples shortly after his death. The Syrian Orthodox Church is descended directly from these early Christian congregations and the Coptic Church of Egypt is also from this time period.

Christian is an umbrella term of all Bible-based churches, including Protestant, Roman Catholic, Orthodox and all smaller sects that have been either founded later or have branched out of Catholic or Protestant Churches. To call an Evangelical church "Christian" as opposed to Catholic Church is erroneous and misleading. Yes, both are Christian churches.

Monpirri, the Romans were not Christian. Nobody was, at that time. The Romans had a whole bunch of gods and goddesses that they had loaned from the Greeks and re-named them with Latin names.

The men who carried out the crucifixion probably weren't even Roman per se. More likely they were Arabic, Turkic or Hellenic recruits in the Imperial Army's auxiliary cohorts.

The Catholic Church DOES refer to the Scriptures when citing evidence for its authority:

Matthew 16:18...
