Are there any Christian churches in Bogota with a contemporary worship style?

goin_south says on Feb 25, 2007, 20:30: I imagine, yes. But, as the caption of one of goosekirk's photos says, under a photo of the inside of one of the fabulous iglesias...probably most likely Catholic, it's more than enough to make you want to go to church, just because of the craziness of it all. Why Colombianitas? Personally... I just don't like pink areolar tissue. 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

I've heard people refer to certain churches in Colombia that aren't Cathlolic as Christian...but I don't understand the difference. las cosas caen por su propio peso 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

goin_south says on Feb 25, 2007, 21:19: But, there is this 'aura' that surrounds 'things...catholic' if you might happen to be raised in the EEUU, where there is little-to-no catholic religion. I was born and lived the first 7 years of my life in such a small midwestern town. There was 'one' catholic school, in that town. And, I remember my parents and grandparents suttly planting the image within my mind at the time, that 'those catholics should be avoided' (and, without reason). Why Colombianitas? Personally... I just don't like pink areolar tissue. 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Azul says on Feb 25, 2007, 21:59: that makes sense to me but I asked a girl once in BQ if she was Catholic, and she responded "NO, I'm Christian". So it made me wonder what the difference was. las cosas caen por su propio peso 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

goin_south says on Feb 25, 2007, 22:10: I can't really say that I know much about what OTHER churches WITHIN the christian religion are prominent in Colombia, and I imagine some are more prominent in some parts, than others. Maybe someone here knows. I still think 95% of Colombians would say they are catholic, if asked. That girl seems to be familiar with what she ain't, and not so much with what 'she is'. Maybe. jaramillo says on Feb 26, 2007, 04:59: Colombia used to be 100% Catholic, and that not long ago. However, over the past 20 years, protestant denomination, mostly from the US, have made inroads in Colombia. They do not want to be confused with the followers of the catholic church. Others simply profess faith in Christian values and dogmas without formally belonging to the Catholic church. All of these tend to call themselves Christian.

adrimm says on Mar 1, 2007, 18:45: Yep I definititly noticed a much larger presence of non-catholic christian churches in the last 15 years or so in Bogota. Seemed more sort of evangelical - probably sprouted from "missions" that some christian churches seem to run to places where they think there isn't enough "Christianity".
