childrens gifts

I need help again! I need to take inexpensive gifts to children- they come from a modest family so things like watches, cd's etc would be considered to extragavant. Both boys & girls agest 7-12. Something they can't get there easily, and fun. Even if its North American candy. I just don't know what kids like (even here!).
Thanks to all.

extravagant?

I think any kid between 7 yo 12 would apreciate so much watches, clothes, and shoes. Of course

Màs fe, màs abrazos, màs besos, màs disculpas, màs visitas a nuestros amigos antiguos nos haràn màs plenos cada vez.

I don't know I usually bring backpacks, toys and stuff for the kids that age...pretty much the same thing I'd give to a kid inthis country.

Desi

girls love to make beeswax candles
art stuff, crayons coloring books
hairbrushes

huge bag of pistachios

you just think that you know...actually I've found it's rather hard to figure out what to give to kids. I work with them, and I know I ought to know, but I don't.
My list for kids between ages 7 and 12:
clothes (think about the climate and the current fashions)
backpacks, sport items, school thingies
toys (stuffed animals, high-tech toys, fashionable toys such as...bay blades etc.)
educational toys, such as playschool, lego and so on.
arts and crafts material
Cds, videos, computer games...in case the family has an internet access.
Most important of all: find out what the kids in that particular family would like to have.
Secon most important thing of all: DON'T get them any junk they can buy at the nearest Ley or Exito.
Cheers,
Desi

yeah, I think next time I'll bring'em wooden toy horses, train sets that you have to set them together yourself, soap and fashion jewelry kits that include a lot of personal effort, and maybe a cd by bob dylan or joan mauel serrat for their personal education....
cheers,
Desi
BTW tinto, Desi's B&B will be opening some time next summer. Are you game?

Adela I thought watches, cd's etc. might be extravagant because of the economic level of the family. Watches would be one of my first choices, but I don't want to appear to be the "rich american", which I am not, and it was something someone told me to be careful about. I do also like the sports equip., and craft kits. I have several to buy for, so I do have to be budget minded as well. Very good suggestions from all of you! Thanks

you should know..adela that watches are very plentiful
and affordable there. $4-8
the kids would love to pick out their own.

had to get my 2 cents worth in... Hey! I don't know about kids in Colombia but I know my daughter and all her friends love girly stuff like lipsmackers flavoured lip balms and you can get little kits of it too. Very economical. But I'm always a fan of craft supplies / stickers / erasers / hair accessories / trendy bracelets / sidewalk chalk / and books & magazines. Also all very fun but economical. Make loot bags of the stuff!

Thanks, old grigo That price range is perfect! Picking out their own is a great activity for me and them both. Craft supplies and maybe camping gear, sports equip. will fix me up!
