CHICAS AGUILA, NOW DRESSED AND INTELLIGENT

Now SABMiller made an agreement with liquor vendors to regulate alcohol drinks advertising. The Chicas Ã?guila are not going to be again wearing a swim suit in private or open shows, and the most important thing they are going to work in a resposible advertising to avoid the minors being involved with this type of beberages.

Sorry it takes me time to traslate that. They made an agreement to help young and teenagers being far away from this liquor beberages. And most of all that they are going to communicate with their potential consumers different, more intelligent people is going to be shown on the advertising, so no more swim suits, more executive type people

SABMiller / Bavaria needs competition. They have virtually 100% of the beer market in Colombia as far as I can tell. Unless you want to buy a 15mil, 22oz Corona at a club - or Heinekin. I imagine with a little research, one could find that Bavaria has their beak dipped into the Corona / Heinekin importation market too ... that's just speculation.

Bad news for the drinks industry. Very bad news.

Just a few days ago I was in a tienda and some aguila girls came along wearing some skin-tight latex. I still have the "Aguila" logo burned onto my retina from that day.

A year or two ago I had some private English classes with the woman who ran the market research for SABMiller. We had lots of chats about beer, of course. If I remember correctly, what she said was...

Brava used to be in the same kind of sector as aguardiente - it was a cheap getdrunkquick type drink. Since then, of course, it has attempted to change its image by lowering the alchohol content and marketing it as a "party" drink for young people.

Club Colombia tries to place itself in the "wine sector", i.e. middle class people might have one at lunch.

guila, Poker and Costeña try to position themselves as "everyday man" beers, suited to the working classes.

Then, of course, there is Peroni - the "If people see you drinking this then they will know that you are rich" beer.

Yeah, right, like anyone will even notice them when they're dressed like everyone else.

The article doesn't say anything about the use of minors in advertising.

"erradicar el consumo en los menores de edad " means that one of the goals of the self regulation policy is to "eradicate consumption among minors".

The only other thing the complete article says about minors is that television advertising would be restricted to programing that would be expected to have a minimum 70% adult audience. They would also refrain from using cartoons in their advertising.

The Chicas Aguilas are smoking, of course. But I love intelligent women as well as women who dress well. I am now in Cali and the women are good-looking, of course. Not more so than other parts of Colombia, though. Lots of skin but really I think people dress a little better in Bogota, maybe have to due to the cold? But I am falling into the Colombian habit of overgeneralizing about a country where perhaps too much is made of small differences.

I am a sucker for women wearing tight black pants and a classy business jacket. Bogota me mata.

A little bit of rain, lots of heat and humidity. I hope it stays dry, all that lluvia last week flooded the Rio Cali and closed a lane of the main highway to the airport. The roads are nuts here and during la feria will be a locura, or as one Colombiana tried to explain to me, it will be ´a delirium´.

The Rio Cali was flowing pretty well during Thanksgiving. And, that is a rather... 'steep' river... coming down that hill from the zoologica and above. I imagine it was reaking havoc, with all the rain I've been hearing about the past three weeks.
