Checking case status

I filed my novia's I-129F documents last week. How do I track it's progress? The USCIS website references "a receipt number". Will I get a letter from them acknowledging they recieved the documents?

Thanks,
Danny H

Yes, you will get a document called an I-797 Notice of Action which will contain their case number. You can use this to track what happens to it online.

yeah, but... don't expect much...for most normal cases there are two events that occur:

1) Yes, they received it

2) Yes, the approved it

between those two events you won't hear anything.

It would be nice if they said something like "there are now X cases ahead of your case" but don't hold your breath.

You can look at the back of the canceled check. They stamp it with a case number. I think it starts with and EAC

It depends on the service center. For Texas, it will start SRC, for California WAC etc.

Good advice on the check. I checked my bank account the other day and saw that my checks were proccessed. My bank also has the image of the checks online too. After I saw the comment above about the case number on the back of it, I checked it again and saw what you guys were talking about, so I did a search on USCIS for the case number so I now know that they offically received the petitions on May 19th. Now the wait! Good advice about the checks...

Thanks!
