I don't know if anyone else has seen this before, it is a piece that a show called A Current Affair did about American men using an agency to meet woman in Bogota. I don't an agency is necesary but I thought it's an interesting video to check out.

ROFLMAO!!! Just watched the video (shaking my head).

Desi's gonna have PLENTY of material on this one. LOL!!! The 80-yr-old looking dude dancing with the 20something-yr-old looking chica was pretty drastic, even by Colombian standards.

I've always heard about these "events," and even once unknowingly saw part of one these events while in Barranquilla at Hotel Royal. But to see that video......

To each his own, but $1200 (not including travel/hotel) is grand larceny, esp. for those purposes.

I don't think that's so bad! Yes, I am one of them. I tried the dating sites in USA first, then Costa Rica and I stumbled onto a Colombian site (not the same one in the video.) For your info. there were a lot of choices not just women but the contacts - I could contact one or two at $15 and more at less dollars or I could send my bio and pictures to 25 women for $100 or I could fly down to Colombia and meet up to 40 women on a three day weekend for $1200. The last part is similar to the one they had on the video.
I chose the 25 women for $100 as it seemed to accomplish more in a shorter time - damn! damn! damn! I chose 20 and 16 of them were interested in talking to me. The first woman I wrote to was all I needed. We clicked and I met her (after 4 months of chatting almost daily) and now we are engaged! And she would rather have me live in Colombia than USA but she is willing to come to USA or whereever I go!
If I had not met her or if we hadn't clicked - I would have moved on to the next possibility.
I think more Colombian women are available because either not many suitable Colombian men are available or these women do not like the Colombian men that are around or ... ...
I find the language barrier kinda fun because we are learning each other's language together and that's a lot of fun! I make her laugh and she makes me laugh. We have fun together whether in Cartagena, Santa Marta, Barranquilla or chatting on the internet.
It may sound hokey or stupid - but if it works it works!
Good luck to you in your search or if you have already found her - more power to you.
I am just a lost soul swimming in a fish bowl, year after year; running over the same old ground. What have we found?

Definitely losers, I could tell it by their obviously bottom feeder demeanor and life style in the U.S. The 25 women they didn’t pick will be handing out chupi cumi’s to their grandchildren and spin tales of their brush with the devil.

Ahhh, was that 5 to 1 ratio of men to women in Colombia? Can’t be right must be 5 to 1 ratio between attractive women and losers?

Anyway, $1,200 is not much money, very inexpensive and would be a vacation this loser would enjoy. Much cheaper than a cruise.

I guess the guy just wants a little spice in his life, just like you.

". . . did you see their expressions??!!! - like "Holy sh*t, I can't believe I'm with HER, I could never pull this on my own" - get a life"

These are the kind of comments that show just how incredibly backward most americans are socially. My god they are only dancing!

But I have to admitt it is kind of a rotten trick to let those old guys get there hopes up. hehehe !!! The poor bastard probably thinks he is going to get laid and break that 20 year streak of bad luck because just about any really hot chick in the states has to be practicly in love with you before they'll get out on the dance floor with you. LOL!

Anyway they'll learn sooner or later. Or they'll end up like some guys that take a colombiana out for lunch or on a few dates and then get pissed because she doesn't want to have sex with them or marry them. hehehe! They actually think that the women went out with them for a free lunch. They found absolutely no value in getting to know someone from a different culture or even having a nice conversation over lunch. And then you have the guys that haven't had sex in so long that the thought doesn't seem to cross their mind. These are the guys that really blow the colombianas minds and usually end up thinking the guy isn't interested in them when nothing could be further from the truth.

Anyway wish me luck. I've got four gringos meeting me in Cali that I have to show the ropes. My first lecture will be on how sex can improve an american guys personality;-)) Why do you think some of those colombianos are so witty and good with the ladies. There getting laid left and right and probably by more than one chick that's why. hehehe!!!

I think the 5 to 1 ratio was a bit of marketing hype. Current Affair will put any old crap on TV and forget about any research. It was entertaining, I liked the one guy with the big teeth, he was almost drooling, "What's your name?" M-A-R-I-A. Like he was talking to someone who couldn't pronounce her own name.

I would like to see a follow up show, see how many actually married and how they are doing 1 or 2 years down the road.

I have no complaints of American women. I would have wanted nothing more than to marry a Colombiana here, but in the meantime I've dated White, Black and Puerto Rican women . . . Well it's not the worst thing in the world Obviously $1200 is not alot of money for someone who's got it to burn. And I don't think every guy is just out to get some poontang, I think most guys legitimatly want a wife. Sure the average guy is pretty clueless especially if he thinks he needs an agency to meet woman in Colombia, but most Americans in general are very ignorant when it comes to Latin America. All one has to do is a google search and find that such an agency is not necesary, but I guess for some it is a manner of convenience. If these guys are looking for some sort time action then yeah paying $1200 plus airfare plus hotel plus food and everything else is ridiculous. What concerns me more then anything else is the language and communication barrier. There only so long that google gaga mushyness can carry a relationship. And the depiction of Colombia was horrible, it made Colombia seem like South Central LA

My Opinion I agree with Calipro. I seriously doubt that Trump is worried about losing a piece of fluff. He was probably ready to trade her in for the new model anyway. That's how those guys live. I met my fiancee through a dating agency, and it's all good as far as I'm concerned, but then again I'm not fat, old, or lazy. I can pull attractive young young chicks here in the states without any problems, I just don't like their attitudes. If I had to venture a guess however, I would say that the women who attend these marriage pageants are far different then the ones who simply post their pics and bios. Just my opinion.

I think the the 5-to-1 ratio refers to the men and women at the party, not the actual population statistics of the country (remember, there were 30 women or so and 5 men there).

Statistically, the number of these marriages lasting is greater than the number of "regular/non-international" marriages. I have a few concerns with this...1) tracking statistics in this area are only coming into vogue over the last 10 years or so, 2) women are totally reliant upon the men, especially those without the ability to speak English, get a well-paying job or drive a car (think back to the 50's) and 3) I do think there is a lot of violence directed towards women in these types of situations, and controlling behavior...many women are afraid to ask for a divorce for fear of repercussions, OTOH, there's the stereotype that many file domestic violence charges against men they don't like so they don't even have to wait 2 years and can stay in the U.S. This is one of the big loopholes in the system, and it's very difficult as the presumption of guilt is always with the male and protects the women...I think there are plenty of decent men that are taken advantage of by Green Card Girls or scammers, just as there are plenty of men who have issues with themselves and have no business getting married TO ANYONE.

You should never get married to someone (if you can help it) where there is more than a 10-15 year age difference. Yeah, I know Catherine Zeta Jones and M. Douglas, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, etc. But that's Hollywood or Trumpland.

I'm not sure which guy bugged me the most (after the 71 year old)...I think I actually liked the older guy that had been divorced twice in comparison to the younger guy who had been down there 11 times already.

This is the American I don't like. Cruises up and down in his Porsche (his version of foreplay), he's probably some type of investment banker...flashes his money around when he goes to Colombia...already had one Colombian wife. I was cracking up that he wasn't happy enough with the 30 freakin' women at the party, he had to hit on the office secretary or translator (Xiomara) or whatever her job title was. He has the mentality that every woman in Colombia was his for the taking....notice the terminology by that slimy guy that ran the agency, it's a "buyer's market," well, when you start treating women like stocks or possessions that you're choosing from, how can you be surprised when things don't work out.

Thats the problem with alot of these guys as they just look at the woman as property, like a Ginie in a bottle ready to answer to any order they give them. For instance I meet this one guy on my first trip back from Cartagena. Probably in his 40's a diffinite hillbilly from Oklahoma. So he told me about how he was using an agency to meet woman and if he wanted to marry the woman he would have to pay the agency $1000. So he was engaged to one, it didnt work out, so he came back to Colombia meet another and after 1 trip he's engaged and bringing her to the states in 6 months. I just dont get it, how can someone make such a big decision without really knowing the person, I guess to each his own.

I really believe you should do the reverse of what happens in the United States when someone is waiting for 2 years for their green card...FOR 2 YEARS, live in HER country, with HER, learn HER culture and language, and, if she still loves you, then you can think about making that transition to the U.S.

A one or two week vacation in "non-real life" conditions is not the stable basis or foundation for a relationship, let alone a marriage.

Well.....ElCheAmericano..... Since I have been spending more time than I would like talking to hillbillies on the phone that would like to find a decent wife, I'd like to comment on your statement.

"So he was engaged to one, it didnt work out, so he came back to Colombia meet another and after 1 trip he's engaged and bringing her to the states in 6 months. I just dont get it, how can someone make such a big decision without really knowing the person, I guess to each his own."

It seems to me that it is pretty easy for some of these guys to make a decision like this so fast because the alternative is having no one or settling down with something they already know that they don't want. Some of these guys are tired of waiting year after year for the right american women to come along. One guy I talked to was definately on the rebound. He dated a woman for a year and thought they were ready to get married and then she just dumped his ass and didn't even really give him a reason. The fact that some of these guys can meet and get engaged to a woman in a week seems to be a big selling point. hehehe !!!

The fact of the matter is that both the americanos that pick a wife in a week and the colombianas that marry them are rolling the dice. I often tell guys that the only thing you can really find out about a woman in a week is whether or not she is attracted to you sexually and IF the two you of you and make each other happy in bed.

And that's a pretty big if considering that some of the guys haven't had sex in quite some time which makes it pretty dificult for them to tell the difference between good sex and bad sex. I mean if you feed a guy soda crackers for a couple of months and then you give him a steak, does it really matter if its a little tuff. The same principle holds true for a guy that hasn't had sex in a while. It's all good at some point. hehehe !!! I just hope I never have to get to that point. LOL !!!

Anyway I just don't see the point in sitting back and passing judgement on the parties involved in any introduction service; be it here in the states or over seas. Are we really all so much better that we can call the guys social degenerates and losers and the colombianas whores and green card sharks.

Some of you guys need to lighten up just a little. I mean it is just people trying to enhance their lives and who are we really to judge what other consenting adults do with their lives.

I disagree: I met two women 4 months apart in Costa Rica and spent 6 days with one and 10 with another and knew within 3 days that this was not what I wanted and parted on good terms with both.
I met my fiancee for 3 weeks in Colombia - she was with me every day and night - we spent more time together than a year or more of dating would have been! A week together can be worth several months of dating and if these people are making their decisions in a week - I think that's alright. Heck, one can get married after several years of dating and still not work out (divorce rate is 50 - 60% in USA.) The fact that these men (and I) are willing to put so much extra effort into it (this visa process really tests your cahunas!) only bodes good for these relaionships. I feel a litle tinge of frustrations in some of these postings here - I wish you all the best and hope you all find the best looking, sexiest woman in the world and have the best relationship possible - I am assured of mine. I can't even laugh because I think it is so sad. Somehow it seems fitting, though, for a society of instant-everything to seek an instant spouse to fall in love with instantly and then just hope it'll last at least for a while. Just spend some bucks and buy yourself some hope.

I knew that everybody thought I was going to have a very strong opinion (aka ranting and raving) about some pathetic guys that are so desperate about finding a little loving in their lives that they'd travel to a war-ridden third world country to look for it since they are so sadly unhappy back home.

I hope the grandpa found somebody whispering sweet little lies in his ear.

Internet Dating Made me a few dollars -- used to speculate on dating websites twelve years ago -- thought it would get hot and it did -- I met my wife the old fashioned way -- visiting friends in Bogota and she owned a ballet school -- damn hard not to fall in love with a latina in a leotard, that jetes around the room. I find the banter on this topic very interesting. In the USA you meet women through friends which you no longer have because they all are in lock step with your poor divorced spouse. You can meet a few drunks at the local bar that cackle so laud you can not take them anywhere. You also have the option of going to church and meeting nice women that think sex is a sin. You could meet women at work if you can afford the sexual harrassment lawsuit that will follow when you break it off or you could try heaven forbid internet dating. I think it is a viable option for those seeking companionship.

C'mon Desi You gotta admit seeing grandpa dancing with a "potential partner" was funny.

Seriously, TioJoe raises some interesting points. I need to get into THAT business. All it would take is advertising here in the USA. In middle USA. Or disgruntled dudes in the Northeast? Or out in Vegas at the airport, when dudes are leaving their $3000/nite hookers? Or the dudes in south Florida?

Whatcha think? Legal pimping for Toneloc24? $1200 a wkd per person? LOL!!!

There are worse ways to find a spouse I suppose. Some of the people involved are losers...so what? Who's the biggest loser, grandpa or the chica dancing with him...hmmmm?

I actually looked at the latin bride websites a lot. Not because I was seriously considering them; but, because I enjoy looking at pretty women...especially latinas! I do see an awful lot of the same pictures posted today that were there four years ago.

At one point during my separation I did investigate one agency. They charged a hefty fee...about three grand. The woman running it made an in house call to you house and thouroughly investigated you to be sure what her ladies were getting into.

Didn't use it but don't necessarily believe that those who do are automatic losers. There are losers in all walks of life.

I agree, what is a loser? I am sure that even though the Colombianos liked to watch her walk down the street, they would have thought my wife was a loser. A 42 year old widow with three kids. One man's ceiling is another man's floor. Like Tom Petty says, even a loser gets lucky sometimes.

This Topic Well, this seems very similar to arranged Marriages that have been going on in many cultures for hundreds of years. The guy still has to meet his prospective brides family, and that couldnt end up being too much fun if he or she was not dead serious about the relationship. Do I agree with the meat market companies that sell dates? NO. Personally, I have been talking to my girl for over a year now, who I met in an MSN Colombian chat room, while hanging out with a Colombian friend of mine that was talking to his friends there. This is not exactly traditional, but its been a year, and i am planning my first trip in September to Bogota. I keep my $1200 and still get to meet a very nice girl, who I have gotten really attached to :)
