I don't know if anyone else has seen this before, it is a piece that a show called A Current Affair did about American men using an agency to meet woman in Bogota. I don't an agency is necesary but I thought it's an interesting video to check out.

ElCheAmericano says on Jun 8, 2005, 21:35: Makes me think Maybe I need to start my own agency. There some real money making potential there. Just curious is that 5 to 1 man to female ratio in Colombia accurate. I know theres a difference but I never would think that big of a difference.

rjstuff says on Jun 8, 2005, 22:09: I don't think that's so bad! Yes, I am one of them. I tried the dating sites in USA first, then Costa Rica and I stumbled onto a Colombian site (not the same one in the video.) For your info. there were a lot of choices not just women but the contacts - I could contact one or two at $15 and more at less dollars or I could send my bio and pictures to 25 women for $100 or I could fly down to Colombia and meet up to 40 women on a three day weekend for $1200. The last part is similar to the one they had on the video.

The mentioned ratio was 5 to 1 women to men, and that 70% of those bufónes get married within a year. I wonder what the divorce rate is???

kernow62 says on Jun 9, 2005, 04:51: I think the 5 to 1 ratio was a bit of marketing hype. Current Affair will put any old crap on TV and forget about any research. It was entertaining, I liked the one guy with the big teeth, he was almost drooling, "What's your name?" M-A-R-I-A. Like he was talking to someone who couldn't pronounce her own name.

rona says on Jun 9, 2005, 06:40: Calipro Thanks for asking - she's waiting for packet 4 as we speak . . . . however my situation is different - I have familial ties to Colombia, I don't use an agency to meet chicks and I've been going to Colombia and other Latin-American countries for years - I actually have something in common with them . . . look, I was born and raised in the US and I've SERIOUSLY dated here. I have no complaints of American women. I would have wanted nothing more than to marry a Colombiana here, but in the meantime I've dated White, Black and Puerto Rican women . . . It was my dumb luck to find my wife-to-be on a hot, muggy Caribbean afternoon while visiting my uncle in "el Centro"-. . . . yeah what I said was pretty harsh, but c'mon what do you have to say to a bunch of hard-up guys that travel across the hemisphere for some action?

ElCheAmericano says on Jun 9, 2005, 08:04: Well it's not the worst thing in the world Obviously $1200 is not alot of money for someone who's got it to burn. And I don't think every guy is just out to get some poontang, I think most guys legitimatly want a wife. Sure the average guy is pretty clueless especially if he thinks he needs an agency to meet woman in Colombia, but most Americans in general are very ignorant when it comes to Latin America. All one has to do is a google search and find that such an agency is not necesary, but I guess for some it is a manner of convenience. If these guys are looking for some sort time action then yeah paying $1200 plus airfare plus hotel plus food and everything else is ridiculous. What concerns me more then anything else is the language and communication barrier. There only so long that google gaga mushyness can carry a relationship. And the depiction of Colombia was horrible, it made Colombia seem like South Central LA

N2Aquatix says on Jun 9, 2005, 08:14: My Opinion I agree with Calipro. I seriously doubt that Trump is worried about losing a piece of fluff. He was probably ready to trade her in for the new model anyway. That's how those guys live. I met my fiancee through a dating agency, and it's all good as far as I'm concerned, but then again I'm not fat, old, or lazy. I can pull attractive young young chicks here in the states without any problems, I just don't like their attitudes. If I had to venture a guess however, I would say that the women who attend these marriage pageants are far different then the ones who simply post their pics and bios. Just my opinion.

ElCheAmericano says on Jun 9, 2005, 09:10: Excellent Remarks Caulfield I especially liked your comments on the guy who has been to Colombia 11 times, what a dickhead. Thats the problem with alot of these guys as they just look at the woman as property, like a Ginie in a bottle ready to answer to any order they give them. For instance I meet this one guy on my first trip back from Cartagena. Probably in his 40's a diffinite hillbilly from Oklahoma. So he told me about how he was using an agency to meet woman and if he wanted to marry the woman he would have to pay the agency $1000. So he was engaged to one, it didnt work out, so he came back to Colombia meet another and after 1 trip he's engaged and bringing her to the states in 6 months. I just dont get it, how can someone make such a big decision without really knowing the person, I guess to each his own.

And this is not unique, there are many sewrvices like that here where a group of men and women meet (short time 5 to 10 minutes) and then go on to the next combination and if they like someone thy can try and hook up with that person later etc.

TioJoe says on Jun 10, 2005, 15:05: Internet Dating Made me a few dollars -- used to speculate on dating websites twelve years ago -- thought it would get hot and it did -- I met my wife the old fashioned way -- visiting friends in Bogota and she owned a ballet school -- damn hard not to fall in love with a latina in a leotard, that jetes around the room. I find the banter on this topic very interesting. In the USA you meet women through friends which you no longer have because they all are in lock step with your poor divorced spouse. You can meet a few drunks at the local bar that cackle so laud you can not take them anywhere. You also have the option of going to church and meeting nice women that think sex is a sin. You could meet women at work if you can afford the sexual harrassment lawsuit that will follow when you break it off or you could try heaven forbid internet dating. I think it is a viable option for those seeking companionship.

KyleKC says on Jun 11, 2005, 11:56: This Topic Well, this seems very similar to arranged Marriages that have been going on in many cultures for hundreds of years. The guy still has to meet his prospective brides family, and that couldnt end up being too much fun if he or she was not dead serious about the relationship. Do I agree with the meat market companies that sell dates? NO. Personally, I have been talking to my girl for over a year now, who I met in an MSN Colombian chat room, while hanging out with a Colombian friend of mine that was talking to his friends there. This is not exactly traditional, but its been a year, and i am planning my first trip in September to Bogota. I keep my $1200 and still get to meet a very nice girl, who I have gotten really attached to :)
