Flying to Cartagena is probably the cheapest, but it's expensive for how short a flight it is.

You could hitch-hike through the Darien Gap.

You didn't check the travel guide. There's a whole thread about how to go by boat: http://poorbuthappy.com/colombia/travel/FromColombiaToPanama/

It's not even safe trying to pass the southern border, Col to Ecuador.. and you think it's gonna be 'RELATIVELY SAFE'.... going the darien gap.... BUT.............I'd be happy to hear about it.

Dude just fly. Boat = going to Colon, finding a service to Colombia, putting yourself at risk on the high seas... Fly and you're there in about an hour. If your a Panama pensionado you can get a good discount. When I lived in PC I'd check the price on the computer and then go with that price to Avianca and get my discount.

"High Seas"

Agree, sounds overly dramatic. I met a number of travellers who did it one-way.. often someone sailing from Cartagena to Panama (or vice versa) will take a few paying passengers. It takes a few days, ao not sure if you'd save some money or not but it must make for a great story.
