For anyone interested, the details below are for a registered taxi service in Medellin that offers cheaper taxi rides to the airport. They come and pick you up and operate the white taxis. The cost is 36,000 pesos from ie Poblado and 40,000 from Envigado. Normal cost that I paid was 48,000 from Poblado.

Asociacion de Conductores Del Oriente Antioqueno
PBX: 2611616
Cell: 3137440680 or 3007864357.

They take your name and give you a registered number.

Should mention the service is only this price to go to the airport - NOT from the airport.

Investment Strategy - buying when others are crying!! Offloading when others are gloating!!!

From Hotel Nutivara in Centro - dont know the address sorry. It is 6 or 7,000 pesos to the airport. Or with the new route, last time I came, the bus passed San Deigo centro commercial, so you could catch it there (near the corner where the road goes up the hill to Palmitas)
The info I gave you above - you can also ring and book a group taxi, split with 4 people.

I ring up that service several times a week for guests and the price is now 39.000 pesos. it used to be 36.000 but its up a bit now.... one of the best ways to get from the airport to medellin is just to talk to the person next to you on the plane.. often theyll give you a ride into the city for free..

Esanch - the airport is way outside the city about 45 to 50 minutes away. If u r in colombia already coming to Medellin try and use an airline like Satena where you land in the little aiport inside the medellin city; then ur taxi will be around 4500 pesos to Poblado.

It's for taxis to make a profit taking people to the airport. Especially when you consider the price of gas and the toll costs going and coming from there. I have my taxi driver pick up people at the airport and I pay him $60,000. He will wait for for people and is 100% trustworthy. That's all the way from Rio Negro to Sabaneta. He charges $50,000 and I give him $10,000 tip. The trust and safety factor is worth the extra.

In terms of bickerss comment about the white taxis...there much larger than the mini taxis used all over Medellin. A great bargain to say the least.

I always hire a local friend from the barrio to pick me up and drop me off at the airport. It puts a little extra money in their pocket. I always pay them $25.

We did the same thing last time we went and the guy showed up in his little van to pick us up at 9PM. Unfortunately, right before take off in Miami there were "mechanical problems" that kept us inside the plane at the gate for 2½ hours. We didn't get to Medellín until way after 11pm. The guy was pissssssssssssssed. Oh well. =\

On 3/23/09 I used the service referenced by the OP. The taxi is bigger than the yellow city cabs. The driver arrived quickly and got me to the airport fast. It cost 40K from Medellín to MDE. I think the 2009 price for the yellow cab is 50K. While not the cheapest option, this service was what I needed on Mon and saved me 10K. I recommend them.

BTW, the last time I took a yellow cab from Medellín to MDE, I called first and got a number. Despite them knowing I was going to MDE, the driver didn't have gas nor money to fill up. I only discovered that after wondering for a while and finally asking why we were going 20 km/hr when everyone else was going 60. He explained the problem so I paid the fare up front and we filled up.

Thanks for the information on the service.

You can also catch a shared taxi on ayachucho about 6 blocks or so above oriental. I think it´s like 12k pesos but I honestly can´t remember the price.
