Spirit Airlines announces flights from A.C. to Colombia via Florida

Spirit Airlines, the only major air carrier at Atlantic City International Airport, has a new destination for travelers: Bogota, Colombia.

Service to the Colombian capital begins July 24 via Fort Lauderdale on Spirit's new Airbus fleet.

"We are excited about liberating millions of Colombians in Bogota from high fares as we've already done in Cartagena and other cities in the region," Spirit Chief Marketing Officer Barry Biffle said in a statement.

From Atlantic City, a round-trip ticket can cost about $376, not including taxes and other fees, according to Spirit's Web site.

The air carrier offers direct flights from the resort to destinations in Florida, including Tampa and Orlando.
Earlier this month, it announced the expansion of its Caribbean network to include flights to Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, via Fort Lauderdale.

While the Miramar, Fla.-based company has said its Latin America flights have been profitable, it will decide whether to cut any domestic routes next month. For information:
