cheap places to stay in Santa Marta? during semana santa? suggestions?

Hey everyone, well, I was suppose to stay with a friend's family in Rodadero over semana santa but now they have more family coming, and well, no room for my friend and I!!!

Do you guys know of hostels, hotels, etc. in Santa Marta that are usally cheap? I know during semana santa that prices are higher but I can look into that. I just need some names of hostels and places like that.

If anyone knows, please let me know asap!! If I can't find something, then I can't go!!! Thanks so much :)

I stayed in Nueva Grenada in centro. It was small, clean and basic. Very cheap too!
I also stayed in El Rodadero in Hotel La Sierra. Not cheap, not very impressive, but great location..... Good Luck!

Vic is right. And you will have problems even to walk there...
Absolutely the worst time to go.

thanks Gator, I'll try to call that agent you mentioned later

One might look as semana santa as the worst time to travel. But if you work down here, then it's one of the only times to travel and I want to travel. I'm sure I will find a fine place to stay. I'm not worried and I"m still going. Doesn't matter to me if you guys says it's the worst time to go. For me it's the best. I have no other time to travel!!

But thanks everyone for the advice. I just needed advice from travelers who know some good hostels, etc. that's it

not really true, you can find some good places much better than cartagena for semana santa and i remember last year never paying more than 18,000 or 15,000 a night for my own room with tv and fan and bathroom(pefect for inviting the neighbourhood girls back for a nightcap) near the sea front and tankers. right at the end of the promenade where all the ships dock you can get some cheap places around there en calle 1 or 2. there is even a shared hostel just around that neighbourhood for cheaper than this...

recuerdas para preguntar por un descuento para quedar mas que 4 dias...

i always asked for a discount on hotel room and bus journeys, for instance i paid 90 mil instead of 120 mil for bus ride Bogota to Santa Marta last july.

mucho suerte y disfruta las chicas en las bares y calles cercita del mar.

Go to the Lonely Planet's web site. You should find a lot of cheap options listed.

Did u get my email i sent u a foto cos i know where the hostel is but cant remember the name. dont fall asleep on the beach there remember..there are some firiendly red light girls around the hostel near the seafront, one block back to have a beer with if ya lonely, its in front of a corner shop costs 1200 or 1500 pesos but go down the road to the aguila themed bar and u pay at least 2800 or 3000.

mucho suerte cuadro, tuve un buen tiempo alla

have a good one megs, it should be getting busy there with semana santa coming up and stuff...try some of the exotic fruit drinks for 1500 or 2000 pesos from the juice vendors near the plaza like maracuya con leche, zapota o lulo o mango por la manana....
