cheap hotel in Bogotá

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for a cheap hotel in Bogotá. I know there are lots of cheapies in La Candelaria, but although I love travelling I'm not really into the 'back-packers hangouts' scene and from what I've heard, this part of town is where all the 'travelers' stay. I'm looking for somewhere basic situated in a very 'Colombian' barrio ideally not paying more than $40 (70,000 pesos) for a double room with private bathroom. ¿The poorbuthappy guide suggests the Hotel Villa Karina in La Macarena as a good option for living 'Colombian style' cheaply. ¿Has anyone stayed there?
Many thanks

Hello. be careful about cheap hotels. You know you get what you pay for. Cheap in Bogota will probabaly mean no hot water, that will absolutely suck in Bogota.

Hola!

Aparta Hotels may be cheap but expect cold water. Maybe they might have a stove in the room, so you could boil water to use for your shower. It gets the job done!

We just stayed at one of the apartments managed by FernandoSuites, com. It was only $90.000 a night for a one bedroom and $110.000 for a two bedroom. It is located in the Santa Barbara Occidental area of Northern Bogota which is nice and close to lots of good eateries and otherwise well situated. It was a typical, fairly nice Northern Bogota apartment and yes Virginia, there is hot water. I will be writing a more complete report when I have some time.

Sounds like a good price, CG. I've seen those apts on Craigslist and they're usually $100 USD per night.

Well. Maybe I got the Colombian price. We were charged $540.000 COP for six nights. An agency representative came by and charged us the morning after we got there.

I am used to paying that much for two nights at the hotels we usually frequent. Obviously, it wasn't quite as nice as a luxury hotel, but it was still pretty nice and well worth the price.

The funny thing is that we ended up skipping a few of the nights we paid for because my relatives had us over at their places. I didn't really sweat the fact that we paid for nights we didn't use because it was so cheap.

thanks for your comments. I've also been told that it's best to avoid any hotels south of La Candelaria. ¿is that right?

Consider Hotel Virrey, although over your price, now at $62 US or 118K cp for a double, according to their website. http://www.hotelelvirrey.com . I was there in in January for $33 US for a single and it was nice, secure and centrally located in the Candelaria. The price includes all taxes and a breakfast. In-room safe, hot water and all.

Que les vaya bien.
