cheap flights to either Venezuela or Ecuador

I am relatively to this website but if someone can let me know a couple of things. My girlfriend is from Colombia and I am wanting to try to get her a visa to come here to the US. She owns a finca and has a son there. I want to get some stamps on her passport from other countries prior to doing this. She lives near Bogota. Where would you recommend going on a budget. Also has anyone traveled by bus into Ecuador or Venezuela. How safe is this. The flights I found to Quito were about $400 roundtrip or 680 mil pesos. I was hoping to be more economical and spend the money on hotel and tourist things once we were there. How safe is Venezuela these days. All I hear are the negative things from here in the US and in Colombia about Venezuela. Would you travel there by bus? Or go to Ecuador? Thanks in advance. Also how much is it by bus and how many hours.

I would suggest some countries that are not as well known for importing Colombianas to work in brothels and strip clubs. Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Spain, etc. are all good places to go to get stamps in her passport and look well traveled/established.

They said I couldn't play football I was too small / They say I couldn't play basketball I wasn't tall / They say I couldn't play baseball at all / And now everyday of my life I ball.

it was a question about cheap flights
i dont see how strip clubs has anything to do with it.
many people all over the world cross borders for diff reasons

the only problem that i might see is that Ecuador might be kicking out or denying entry to Colombians.
i know one person that happened to but that was a couple weeks ago

Trips to Venezuela are as expensive as Quito, at least to Caracas. But you could fly to Isla Margarita on a cheap package tour, probably. Panama is probably the cheapest flight.

I suppose one could also fly to Leticia and bag both Brazil and Peru entry stamps in a couple days if you played it right.

is Leticia a safe part of Colombia?

bickerss says on May 4, 2008, 20:16:

leticia is ok, you cant drive there u have to fly. Aerorepublica or satena - you can cross into brazil there without a visa ie the town that joins leticia that is part of brazil. Easy to cross the river to get to peru as well.

I am not sure I understand why you think that these stamps in her passport would help her get a U.S. visa.

And, Panamá is a common destination for prepagos.

My thoughts too...be curious to see what his answer is...ironically, it looks worse. "Hmmm why is this Colombiana traveling around like this?...and if she is asked in the future, what will be the answer? Because why? It is best to be Real and Honest"

Also. curious....why did you pick these specific countries as opposed to countries that would be less controversial or problematic?

Yes Cat, too much Latin American travel could be a red flag for U.S. Immigration, ESPECIALLY for Colombiana.

I actually don' think other visas or stamps matter at all. A friend of mine with a US visa was denied one into the EU, and I've heard of the reverse also happening.

I think it's pretty much a roll of the dice when they walk up to those windows. If your girlfriend has property and family in Colombia that's a big leg up.

I really doubt that INS will be impressed, especially with passport stamps from Venezuela, probably one of the biggest routes for drugs out of Colombia..

The Colombian airforce had some regularly scheduled flights into northern ecuador earlier this year, but seem to have suspended them.

It's about 24 hours (very approx depending on traffic etc) from Bogota to the border with Ecuador and probably 18 or so I think to Venezuela.

I've not found cheaper round trip flights in the next two months (mde to quito) than $400. Caracas is surely more right now. Panama City tickets are actually a bit more right now, like $450-500, which is nuts IMO.

Mr. H "I actually don' think other visas or stamps matter at all."

If it is for a legit purpose, true.

But if she is doing it to "add" stamps to her passport? So what will her answer be after she is asked what it was for? It would raise a flag if she gives the real reason and obvious if she lies. Again, have to see why he feels this is even necessary.....

a friend in colombia told me it would be easier with stamps prior to asking for a visa to the us first. i could be completely wrong on this. what in your opinion is the best plan to get her a visa to come to the US. thanks

Bradk: "the best plan to get her a visa to come to the US"

Wish you luck Brad - I will have to defer this to PBHers with more experience in this area ;))

she says it looks suspicious for someone that hasnt traveled outside the country to right away want to go to the US as the first country outside Colombia. For this it is best to get a few stamps before hand. All of this is new to me obviously so that is why I am asking.

I am far from an expert, but that makes no sense to me.

this was not my girlfriend that said that but another friend i have there if you think i should go about getting her a visa a different way please let me know as i would rather save this money for other things

jonas says on May 6, 2008, 09:41:

You should first check how strong her ties to Colombia are. Number One reason for visa denials is the lack of strong ties to Colombia. They like to see them leaving a kid back here and owning property or business. So, if she cannot prove this you would be wasting your money for the tickets just to get stamps that I agree wouldn´t do any good. I guess the friend who told you about this referred to the fact that if you apply for a US visa and you have visa for Europe, UK, etc. that show you have traveled to the "first world" and returned to Colombia it sure helps. Stamps from Venezuela, Ecuador or Peru wouldn´t help in this way.
