Look for any sign that says almuerzo ejecutivo

They do some wonderful things with tripas y carne de gallinaso these days.

Ain't no such thing as cheap in Cartagena from what I just experienced - just left today. Anywhere the tourists (me) go, the prices are crazy. 20 mil for a "value" meal at El Coral, 7 to 14 mil Aguilas at typical discos. I am sure out of the touristy areas, things are much more reasonable with local's pricing.

Last year I was paying about 4700 pesos for my daily almuerzo in Getsemani and it was good and plentiful, not a cheap almuerzo like one sometimes sees. But the place was packed daily. I would say walk around Getsemani and look for the Menu del Dia, Menu Ejecutivo, etc. (Getsemani is just outside of the old city, by the park, it is marked on every map)

The best meal to eat out in Colombia is almuerzo, it is by far the best deal. If you are not a picky eater, and are happy with the 2 or 3 types of meals provided.

McDonalds in Colombia is actually more expensive than McDonalds in the USA. I think this is a clue that the Colombian peso is artificially strong (perhaps from drug money changed from dollars to pesos at poor dollar exchange rates due to strong anti-laundering laws). I compare McDonalds prices in every country that I visit -- I will seek one out to get the prices even when I don't eat there. In China and Thailand, for instance, they are much cheaper than the USA, and thailand is a country at a very comparable level of development as Colombia (and the ingredients should be harder, not easier, to obtain there).

Plaza del Mercado? Whole fish cooked as you wait. Or you could try the different varieties of dishes there as well. How strong is your stomach?

Clavo, my buddy Jorge thinks I have a water born amoeba also. I still think it was the mango verde.
