NEW YORK, Oct 18 (Reuters) - Payless ShoeSource, a unit of Collective Brands Inc (PSS.N: Quote, Profile, Research), said on Thursday it will open stores in Colombia starting next year through a joint venture with a local businessman.
The shoe retailer said it expects to open 10 stores there starting next summer with the help of Colombian retail businessman Samuel Azout.
Payless, which has about 200 stores in nine countries throughout Central America, the Caribbean and South America, said its operations there are through joint venture partnerships as well. (Reporting by Justin Grant)

Tinto (Moderator) says on Oct 18, 2007, 14:06: FWIW, I looked up Samuel Azout's name. He's the mover and shaker that revived Vivero, managed the Vivero/Carulla combination and probably made a lot of money when it was sold to Exito. He was also mentioned as having an interest in opening Starbucks stores in Colombia but that story didn't pan out. Onward to the next best thing - cheap shoes!

I don´t remenbe if they have stores in the north. You have to find in the yellow pages). They made EXCELENT SHOES. miamimike says on Oct 19, 2007, 01:39: And Colombian Shoemakers, like its domestic Textile Industry, will not be able to compete due to the fact China has its currency frozen at artifically low rates(china claims to be floating its currency these days but ts hardly budged since its claim). Wait 'til they crank up their Cut Flower export trade to Europe and the USA. China is the 800 lb Gorilla in Colombia's future,,, Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. capitan_centella says on Oct 19, 2007, 08:36: Hum. In some point people will prefer pay "a little bit extra" than buying "made in china". You can see it now. In textile, "coltejer" made way better fabric than most of chinese factories. Even our "ruanas" (like the mexican ponchos, but made of whool and much heavier) are better made than chinese poliester. miamimike says on Oct 21, 2007, 12:09: Kat-Respectively I have to disagree with you. You canbuy Quanity if you want but pay a little more and you move way up in quality with Chinese Goods. The same night I picked up that $20 Stereo Unit, I was also looking at the Bicycles at the Target Store. They stock Schwinn Brand amongstohers and I looked over those Schwinns with a fine tooth comb and was amazed at the quality for the Price. Welds were seamless and smooth, Paint was smooth, uniform&shiny. When you say all they make is quanity not quality Kat, exactly what Goods are youreferring to? Man Tequila says on Oct 21, 2007, 12:22: China will make what you want. What Wal-Mart, Reebok and Polo want is low cost. Some companies want quality at a low price, some want shoddy goods at the lowest price. A lot of the cheap electric stuff does not meet minimal safety standards and can be dangerous. Sometimes corners are cut, e.g. melamine in dog food. pues se me antoja que sus cantares son de una tierra desconocida, y yo le dije si a usted le inspira, saber la tierra de donde soy... con mucho gusto y a mucho honor... |

miamimike says on Oct 21, 2007, 20:34: Like I mentioned as well as others, China has maybe 5 grades from Junk to very well made. Shoes not well made, I am not surprised but as their Industry matures, Quality will go way up also. Same thing happened with Japanese made Goods in the 60s-we termed it "Jap Junk" back then and look at it now. Japanese items are now synonmous with Quality(Toyota for example)and in time, the same thing will occur with China, including Shoes. Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we." GW Bush |
