Of course it's very good to know the boy is free, though his saying all this is also part of Chavez's own political diatribe...hopefully FARC does free the others, however.

Chavez to Keep Negotiating With FARC for Release of Hostages
By Matthew Walter
Jan. 6 (Bloomberg) -- Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said he'll keep trying to secure the release of hostages from Colombia's biggest guerrilla group following a failed attempt to free a group of prisoners last week.
Chavez said he's expecting to re-establish contact with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, to finalize the release of hostages Clara Rojas and Consuelo Gonzalez de Perdomo. A mission organized by Chavez to receive the hostages fell apart Dec. 31 when the guerrillas pulled out.
The Marxist guerrillas may have deceived Chavez by telling him they were still holding Rojas's son, Emmanuel, who was born in captivity, and offering to hand him over to the Venezuelan leader. The Colombian government discovered Jan. 4 through a DNA test that the boy had actually been released in 2005 and was living in foster care.
``Beyond any other focus or political diatribe, the most important and beautiful thing is that Emmanuel is free,'' Chavez said in comments broadcast by state-owned Venezolana de Television.
Rojas and Gonzalez de Perdomo are part of a group of about 45 prisoners who have been at the center of negotiations between the FARC and the Colombian government to swap hostages for about 500 jailed guerrillas. Some of the hostages have been in captivity in the Colombian jungle for as long as six years.
The president said criticism of his involvement in negotiations with the Colombian guerrillas group has been orchestrated by the U.S., which wants to paint him as a dictator.
``Chavez is a tyrant, Chavez is a dictator, doesn't go along with Chavez trying to liberate hostages,'' he said.

fecherklyn says on Jan 6, 2008, 15:20: Much of the media comment over the last few days concludes Chavez's influence with the FARC was more limited than he hoped for. This may be true but it is difficult to deny their common idealogical ground and mutual sypathies.

Mr. Hollywood says on Jan 6, 2008, 16:15: If Chavez wants to exert his influence with the FARC it'll be easy for him to do. They'll be shitting themselves if Venezuela suddenly stops looking the other way whenever the FARC runs into their territory or using it as a staging ground.

athensugadawg says on Jan 6, 2008, 16:36: One thing to keep in mind is that Tio Hugo is playing both sides here....I seriously doubt that Doña Rojas agrees with anything that Oliver Stone had to say. Chavez was obviously enamored with all of the attention that he was getting from his new friend, Comrade Stone (Remember..."I'm a fan!!!"). So if and when these two are released, I would like to see Comrade Stone explain to the Rojas family why the actions of the FARC were justified with President Chavez serving as mediator. Perhaps then we could see a walker wrapped around Comrade Stone's fat head.
