Chavez tells Colombia not to build base for US

President Hugo Chavez on Wednesday warned Colombia not to allow a U.S. military base on its border with Venezuela, saying he would consider such an act an "aggression."

Chavez said he would not permit Colombia's U.S.-backed government to establish an American military base in La Guajira, a region spanning northeastern Colombia and northwestern Venezuela.

The Venezuelan leader said if Colombia allows the base, his government will revive a decades-old territorial conflict and stake a claim to the entire region.

Yeah there is a movable border over there... The US is getting poised to get those nationalized oil profits back in the hands of the cronies. Maybe?

kidding aside - i worry about what happens when the border these FARC bastards scamper over is venezuela, not ecuador, and a high-value target is included.

uribe apologized to ecuador - but rightfully never promised it wouldn't happen again.

Colombia shouldn't let the americans do it. It will create more problems than it solves.

There are gringo soldiers as guest advisors on Colombian bases like doc mentioned.

There are a lot more Colombian soldiers in the US though, I suspect. I met a group of 5 or 6 Colombians in my store a couple of weeks ago. They were on week-end leave from Fort Rucker, Alabama. All were in training for flying helicopters. I meet Colombians all the time where I live who are training at US bases for something or another. I see a lot of EOD guys from Colombia at the mall I work in. (explosive ordanance disposal)

RJ, I attended the School of Aviation Medicine at FT. Rucker back in 1990 and Loved it! Dont know if it is still there now though. I had also seen Colombian Uniformed Soldiers at FT. Campbell but never asked about why. There are so many countries training in the U.S. it is not worth keeping up with. hahahaha. They had Colombia Colors (flag patches) on their shoulder, otherwise I would not have even noticed.
