Morrongo says on Nov 7, 2007, 14:37:

mona, did you see the programme about Buenaventura, Friday on channel 5 ?

LA_MONA says on Nov 7, 2007, 15:04:

As usual it'd put the fear of God into you, the worst possible barrios of Medellin and Cartagena..

He was trying to find out if the paramilitaries really have demobilised in Medellin or not and found out that the paramilitaries are the ones mostly employing the services of the sicarios, doing their social cleansing for them.

The interview with the sicario Andres was sad, and he only managed to speak to one of the paramilitary leaders in Cartagena..

LA_MONA says on Nov 7, 2007, 15:05:

Morrongo no I didn't see it, I would have liked to though, are you here in UK or in Cali?
This is why we need to let each other know what's on ;-)

Man Tequila says on Nov 7, 2007, 15:06:

I saw this on YouTube, knowing nothing about Ross Kemp. I was ultimately unimpressed, but of course it was compelling enough that I watched the whole thing.

Despite the patter, the people he interviewed seemed like very low-level sicarios and gang members. They told him nothing. He drew the conclusions he wanted anyway ("I felt he was holding back"...), supporting his preformed hypotheses, which are not exactly groundbreaking (Have all the guerilla groups disbanded?). I really hope he did not get that Mother of La Candeleria killed... since THOSE are brave individuals. Mr. Kemp puts on a brave face taking the cable car to the barrio but looked less comfortable when those who had suffered terribly broke down telling them their sad and tragic stories.

LA_MONA says on Nov 7, 2007, 15:10:

I agree Man T he did draw hs own conclusions from alot of what was said and he couldn't get the leads he wanted to the big guys.

He was due to meet Judith una madre de La Candelaria and she got shot the day before he got to meet her and hear what she had to say, that was really sad.

The videos are no longer on YouTube due to a copyright claim by SKY. Possibly elsewhere on the web though?

I knew a bloke who went to drama school with him. He told me that Kemp is quite posh, quite the gentleman and a gifted actor.

I would find it hard to take anybody who starred in Eastenders seriously in a documentary setting!

How can I view this online,? this is very very useful for me, potentially.

Help me out here. I think of a "posh" hotel as upscale, refined, in good taste, high quality, expensive. Do my friends across the pond also use "posh" to describe a person? In that case does it mean well educated, polite and refined, but not necessarily wealthy?

LA_MONA says on Nov 8, 2007, 09:28:

Usually wealth is implicated. But yes it can describe a person too, it doesn't have much to do with being polite though, it's more to do with their class and money.

Para volar, es preciso tener resistencia. -M.Lin

LA_MONA says on Nov 8, 2007, 09:29:

A posh person is everything "posh" spice isn't except for the rich part, usually a posh person speaks with an upper class english accent.

Kalder what do you think?

Para volar, es preciso tener resistencia. -M.Lin

kat1 (Moderator) says on Nov 8, 2007, 09:32:

I will say mona is more for educated people, look at how many people here is rich but many said they are not posh, like Victoria Beckham, while someone that speak well, have been well educated and polite is considered Posh, like Hugh Grant (forget about his money) and I think family history plays a big part too.

LA_MONA says on Nov 8, 2007, 09:45:

Kat but I know plenty of educated people, as a good education is relatively easy to get here.

But I'd say posh has more to do with being brought up in a well to do family, middle class. I've met some positively rude posh people, an ex boss comes to mind, bitch.

Mona I saw the cartagena bit. You know whats funny though? If you go to YouTube and type Pirry Cartagena, you will find a really shocking documentary that was aired this past summer. And one of the gang members Ross kemp interviewed, is the same guy Pirry interviewed. However, on Kemp's interview he was an active gang member, fearless of paras and in the interview with Pirry he is part of a reinsertation program and works at a panaderia or something of the sort...It was very odd.

I heard about the pirry documentary, he showed the other face of Cartagena, that inclusive the major of cartagena considered him person non grata (SP):)) I think his camera was stolen but was recover by the police, I can't believe he is the same guy jajaa I also has my suspicious about the main para boss Ross Kemp interviewed , i don't think he is any boss.

thanks LA_MONA, sounds good. Don't mind my name, you can call me whatever you feel like, I don't know what i was thinking when i came up with it, probably my footie teams

Actually Kalder, i shouldn't demean eastenders. I get semi-hooked everytime I'm in England. I watch it on the beeb with my grandparents who for some reason love it, even though they are the classical type. It was funny i was in Cornwall a few years ago for the first time and i loved it. One beautiful Cornish evening i was at a caravan park and i was outside... all of the caravans were occupied and in every window you would see people watching eastenders!!!

kalder says on Nov 9, 2007, 00:42:

15 years ago I was quite the avid watcher of Brookside and Emmerdale.
