Just a quick report about hiking in the mountains to the east of Bogota. This morning I went with a couple of fellows and hiked to the top, east of Usaquen. I wouldn't recommend going alone, but in a group. As most things here there is always some risk. Not of slipping or such, but some nutbar who would like to take, your wallet, your pants, your hat, and anything else you have. So take care. Start walking east from Bogota Beer Company in Usaquen. Follow this road up up up. Until you get to the last apartment building on the left. The road makes a sharp turn to the right and there are a couple of turn markers on the left. Just past those markers on the left enter the bush and follow the fence of this apartment block. The route is pretty obvious through the pine trees. There is a ridge that more or less goes straight up. As you are going up you will pass a rock slab on your left up probably....500m there is a white virgin here. Don't veer left at the virgin but continue on up. From there the path is even more defined. Continue to the top.
I imagine you could return the route just made or do what we did and continue on a loop around and down and exit on the road where you first entered the bush. But there were a few shortcuts we made off the track here and there. So might be better to follow the track you came up.
The views as you climb up are spectacular. The air is fresh and clean. Its a real shame that more people cant enjoy such scenery because of the risk factor.
Here is a rough map I sketch up in Google Earth.
