Cell phones -- regálame un minuto por favor?

I would be interested to get know more about how Colombians pay their cell phones here.

I always have minutes on my pre-pago phone, cause I like the convenience. When you go out in a group, people ask to call from your phone.

1) Is this just the kind of people I hang out with? Or does nobody in Colombia have their own minutes?
2) Do they really have minutes but are pretending not to?
3) What percentage of Colombians have pre-pago vs post-pago?
4) I guess it's not seen as a safety issue for women? That they don't have at least a few spare minutes in their phone in case they need to make a call on the spot?

my family they all have moble In my family they all have mobile phones, but they never have minutes, they all with comcel except my mum which she is with Movistar, they said minutes are expensive, they usually buy a 10.000cop card, and it doesn't last long specially if you call from a comcel to a movistar which if i am not wrong is 700cop a minute I think. s

And if you ask anybody in Colombia to borrow their phone, they never have minutes.

Not only your cell...... Blessed are all my friends here in Medellin but they are the worst group of talk-a-holics I have ever encoountered. They just cannot control their phone usage so they never have minutes. It is really a must when you have post-pago service to keep it a secret or you can be hounded. Even when you have a group over to your house you have to hide the phone. We have had a few surprise phone bills thanks to friends who just couldn't control themselves. Also the line for my girlfriends kids won't allow outgoing as they had no self control even after severe work details to pay for the calls.

Post vs Pre Pago seems to foll0w along the class distinction. If you have money and credit you can qualify and pay for post pago. 90% of the people I know don't seem to fall in this catagory.

When asked I just say "no minutes," however anyone who wants to trade me a 'chuzo de cerdo' for 10 minutes of cellular just let me know!

The favourite 'mobile move' I noticed in Colombia, was that they phone you and you are lucky if it rings once and they hang up so you phone them back.
