Caucasia

Anyone ever been to Caucasia? Trying to find out a little more about it. Not much on the net. I know it is north of Medellin but thats about it.

I have been, more than once. Avoid it like the plague. Hot, dirty, probably has the highest per-capita. gonorrhea in the world. Not a bad place to get Malaria either.

Ha Ha, Caucasia, is fine man. They have a cool swimming pool/bar place there, and yes avoid the hookers by all means. There is a good pool hall down town and decent street food . It is a dusty agricultural town, and a lot of the population works in coca facilities and out on legitimate farms. Be carefull, it is rural, and can be sketchy if you are not carefull. If anyone aproaches you in the bus station or in town like they want to be your friend or help you, be very very suspicious. If you are a gringo, you will be the only one in town. This is really a place only for seasoned Colombia travelers. I spent a week there with a girlfriend to meet her family, the mom was about 45 but had 13 kids, many of whom she was whoring out, the other kids who where of working age worked in coca factories or fucked off doing nothing and seemed to always be filthy, the mom sold cold beers from an ancient frig in the house and sold weed. the dad was a chiclet and cigarette vendor at the bus station. All of them were illiterate, but frankly, really cool, and I had a lovely time time hanging out in a ghetto, of a ghetto town. Good luck, and I am a bit curious why you would want to go there?

Hey, careful, man, there's a beverage here!

After barto colon's write-up, I am very curious about the town now also, and why you might go there: (OP).

Just take the road from Medellin to Cartagena. When you come down the mountain (after Valdivia). You get to Puerto Valdivia. From there you follow the snaking Cauca River to Tarazá, and then Caucasia. It's juts off the main road. I stand by my assessment, and Jorge's account reinforces my opinion. But travelers have different tastes. My hat off to Jorge for enjoying "a lovely time time hanging out in a ghetto, of a ghetto town" where mothers whore their children. But why the hell do you want to go out of your way to go there?

Oh boy. I would be suspicious Greg. I think the University of Antioch has a small branch in Caucasia, But I cant imagine why anyone in there right mind would leave Cartagena, which has dozens of schools, to go to school out in Caucasia. Is this chick a Paisa or Costena?

C'mon, there IS a branch of Antioquia Universidad there. IIRC, according to the sobering HRW Teenage Combatants .pdf in politics, the going rate is maybe US $25-34,000.

Bartolo, is that a Remington 870 Mariner, or a Mossberg 590 stainless?

Katica was a bit slow on that one. But she is right, from Tarazá to Caucasia it was always "Hot", and I'm not talking about the weather. What's the current FARC/Paraco ratio?

bartolo_colon says on Jul 9, 2007, 18:31:

Mossberg stainless , Roberto, very effective against bears, have to carry it when fishing the rivers up north here.....speaking of fishing there is actually really good fishing in Caucasia, "pescado de agua dulce".

Robert Jorge says on Jul 9, 2007, 22:14:

Ahhh. I am a Mossberg 590 owner myself. Hopefully I will never find out, but it should be affective against unwanted guests. I figure the sound of the racking of a shell, and then the sight of the tube as long as the barrel, with a bayonet attached, should be enough to make the intruder run for the door.
