Cartagena Hotels

Headed to Cartagena with some friends. Usually, I stay at the Hotel Charlotte. Small, centrally located, and reasonanbly cheap, about $75 night. However, I am hoping there might be something better out there for that price (in Bocagrande). Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Tlop

I stayed at Hotel Michel Sorrento, Bocagrande, Avenida San Martin.
www.michel-sorrento.com
Its just one street back off the beach, clean, secure, really friendly helpful staff.
I'm not sure of price per night, I stayed here as part of a package deal that was booked by my friend. I havent even looked at the website yet, I just remembered that I had a business card from the hotel and thought you might want to check it out.

Hotel en Cartagena Capilla del Mar is a wonderful hotel with a very helpful staff and right on the beach. Good security, good prices especially with packages available with food and beverage and tours. Located in Bocagrande and 8th.

Hotels Why do you TOURISTS want to stay in AMERICAN STYLE hotels for $75.00 a night it's stupid. When you get to your destination just look around or ask one of the local cab drivers for a cheep hotel, most small hotels are clean safe and have air conditioning and bathroom for $15.00 US a night or less. Or buy a copy of Lonely Planet and see what they recommend,

STOP LOOKING... I stayed at the Cartagena Escape Plaza in Bocagrande last summer. It's a very Miami looking pink building with furnished apts. and all the comforts you could want. We had 2 bedrooms for: 2 adults, 1 teen, and 2 younger kids for only 70 mil pesos a night, but you have to haggle - they start off with a high price. It also had A/C, pool/sauna/jacuzzi, and a kitchen with everything, which was good with the kids. You can find the manager across the street at Restaurante Mi Tierra Paisa, Ricardo Valderrama No 8-30 Av. San Martin, Bocagrande - Tel. 665 3620. Just let me know if you want more info. I'll definitely be going back this summer, you really can't beat the price. Good Luck.

START LOOKING at: www.cartagenacolombiahotels.com
At the above website you will find about three dozen Home Pages of lodging options in Cartagena-complete with photos, prices, and many with maps.

Contact and book the hotels direct. Avoid the internet travel/hotel scalpers...Cartagena´s economy needs every 15% it can get!

The Home Pages are in both Spanish and English.

Good Luck!

Enjoy your visit to Cartagena.

Cartagena hotels Two suggestions. For hotels I liked Las Vellas, right on the beach in Bocogrande,no road between you and the beach. Its older and could use a remodel but great location.120,000 pesos a night March 2004.
Or for renting a condo,contact
Juan Ventura,http://www.cartagenadeindias.com ,phone 575-665-1094,cell 57-310-369-7974.
We stayed in a 2 bedroom across from the beach in Bocogrande for $55 a night in August 2004.Rents vary wildly by time of year, that place goes for $175 in Decmber / January.

The Las Velas is now a Dann. It has been remodeled and probably can't be had for anywhere near 120K per night anymore.

Juan's cell is 310-363-7974. The number above is not correct.

Tomtom33, I think I met you before. Were you on a Copa flight with Juan a couple of years ago going from Cartagena to Panama? Juan was sitting next to me. He was going back to Spain from Panama. There was some "drama" on that flight to refresh your memory; a colombian American guy passed out. His American girlfriend started flipping out and cursing at the flight crew. They laid him out in the back of the plane. He was'nt very coherent. I had my drink on and was trying to calm her down. She was probably the hottest gringa to ever step foot in Colombia and hotter than most Colombianas. The boyfriend turned out to be ok later on. Panamanian officials took him into custody. I had to translate for the girlfriend about what happened because they caused a lot of commotion on the plane. The flight from Panama to New York was interesting too. I met a nice girl from Barranquilla that was living in Queens, New York for 3 years. She was hot. When we got off the plane, I was about to get her phone number, but we ended up getting on two different lines going through immigration. She had to get on the one for for the green card holders. I missed out on some good booty :(

Has anyone here stayed at the Costa del Sol Hotel in Cartagena? If so, would you recommend it?

Cartagena Escape That's the best deal for the money, good location, good security, right near El Pandebono for great breakfast, 1 block off the beach.
Can't beat it.

Morphus It wasn't me. Juan and I are good friends, but I never flew with him to Panama.

I don't even try to hook up on planes or in the US anymore. The Colombianas who live here have me spoiled. They can tell a fat, old guy how handsome he is with a straight face. Porque yo vivo aqui.

Alright Tomtom33, we'll meet next time i'm in Cartagena. It will be soon. You fat old gringos get all the chicks. I'm in the process of making myself older by drinking booze and eating rich foods :)

I'm getting ugly. I took this picture last week
