Cartagena Beaches

Hello all. Going to Cartagena for the first time. Is Bocagrande Beach the most populated beach? I'm going to stay in the HOtel Decameron Cartagena? Is it close to the cool bars, beach areas?

thank you

beaches At all of the beaches on the mainland, you will be subjected to an endless stream of vendors or beggars who will not let you alone. If you want a relaxing beach trip, try the side trips to Baru Island (only for decameron guests) or other islands. The trips will cost a few bucks, but they are well worth it.

As for bars/restaurants, there are some near the decameron, but the old city is better. Try the San Pedro Restaurant. You can eat some meals free there as a guest of the decameron. Ask about it.

Don't miss the Castillo (an impressive old fort) or la Popa (the white monastary on the big hill).

Yes Bocangrande is the most populated. The Hotel Decameron is right in front of the beach in Bocagrande and close to bars and restaurants. But while you there visit la boquilla close to the hotel las americas the beach is no as populated as Bocagrande but they are pretty and tranquil. you can lie in a hamac in front of the beach.
Have a good time

Cartagena beaches I agree with the assesment of the main beach in Cartagena, almost not worth going. Brace yourself and practice saying "No Gracias" a few hundred times and you'll be ok. The side trip to the Decameron private island is well worth it, I think it's 14.00 per person and that includes a good lunch. You should also try a trip to the Rosario Islands, your hotel or any tour operator can arrange it.

I went to Cargtagena last Nov 04... And I rode my bike all over Bocagrand and other places during my stay in Cartagena. Since I ain't much of a beach bum, I didn't worry about it.
