Cartagena Backpackers Hostel

The North Star Backpacker Hostel just opened in Cartagena. They are having an opening sale of 1/2 off the first nigh. It's really nice. Right in Bocagrande. And cheap--the same prices as staying in really dirty youth hostels in Semantsi. !! Two blocks fromt he beach!

Not coming down on the place, but I just love how the owner thinks we're stupid enough to believe that the OP was written by someone who isn't the owner.

No, it's not just you.

Its not me. I live across the street from that beach and I'll tell you that the Bocagrande beach is cleaned every single night by hand and by machine. I know as I run the beach for exercise at night and I see the crews and machine.

You can't control people relieving their bodily functions in an ocean, that happens all over the world and even in your neighbor's backyard pool. But the sand on that beach is always cleaned. It would be easier to recognize if the sand were lighter, but there is no coral in area so you've got common looking brown sand.

you guys are haters. good thing you have all this free time to relieve you anger. Before judging, see what the hostel has to offer

I'd love to hear more about it. I have to say though, you invited the negative comments a bit because of the initial negative post towards the existing places ("really dirty youth hostels in Semantsi"). In any case, the more hostels the better! :)

Poor but snappy

True who's hating when you trash another place? And who says we hate (oh, you do). AND TO GET CLIENTS IT MIGHT NOT BE A GOOD IDEA TO INSULT THEM!!!!!!!!

We just might have stayed at your place and have checked out to see what it has to offer. Noone ever said it was bad (so then we did not judge did we?).

"really dirty youth hostels in Semantsi" - oh wait, you judged.

Your initial post was inflammatory and invited the type of responses you received. Most people (incl me) are glad there are more hostels in Cartagena, and I for one, prefer to stay in Bocogrande.

JG, nothing shows up on Google under that name.

I guess the place is just opening and not on the travel guides or web. Please post an exact street address. I'm living in Cartagena and will be happy to swing by and post an independent review.

que nota!

No this place does really exist. i stayed there for 4 days and was pretty satisfied. it is located in "Bocagrande" which is one of the most posh neighborhoods, but the hostel only cost something like 16.000 pesos for a bed with fan and 20.000 pesos with AC. It was a good value considering the area and the fact that most "budget" hostels in Cartagena are booked up weeks in advance.

The hostel itself was kept clean and had pretty much everything you needed (bed, bathroom, kitchen, close internet, 24 door attendence) and 24hr supermarkets). The neighborhood was safe, in fact the thing i had to worry about most, ironically, were the police randomly searching me.

In regards to the Getsemeni comment, I would never call a neighborhood "dirty", although I do hear stories about petty thievery and prostitutes. Some people say that the "danger" is really overrated in the area. I really couldn“t tell you. Perhaps it would be a good idea to stay in both. Get a feel for the variance there is in Cartagena.
