Cartagena Airport to Cartagena Terminal de Pasajeros?

Hi people, I was wondering if anyone could offer me some advice on the cheapest way to get from the airport to the terminal de pasajeros/intercity bus terminal in Cartagena. Is there a bus that I can catch that runs that route? If so, do you have any idea of the cost? Thanks in advance for your help.

You can catch a cab anywhere you want to go for around $4.00

don't take a bus it will takes ages to get there, follow Boungone advice and take a taxi, it won't cost you much. although a little tip, if you take the taxi at the airport they will charge a bit more (kind of airport tax) but if you walk to the main road which is very close to the airport and take a taxi there it will 2000 pesos less.

To keep the cab drivers honest, you now can pre pay your cab fare at the cab office, they give you a reciept that you give to the driver so you know up frpont what you are paying. Cartagena cabs have no meter so you used to be at the mercy of the driver and Grigoes AWAYS pay more.

The terminal de transportes is all the way on the other edge of town. In a taxi, it would maybe cost you about 13k, assuming you walked the 100m out of the airport and caught the taxi on the main road.

If you walk out, start from the entrance doors to the main hall at the airport. With your back to these doors, you will see a road directly in front, it's one short block and you're on the main road.

What time of day are you arriving?

In case you're going to Barranquilla on arrival. There are colectivo vans leaving for Barranquilla on the Crespo side of town, very close to the airport.

There's a Metrocar that goes to the terminal (airconditioned bus service at a cost of 1500 pesos that takes a more direct route). I'm not sure where/if it passes through Crespo, though.

You could walk out to the main road and catch the bus. It will probably be blue and have a Crespo sign on it. For about 1100 pesos, that bus will take you to centro. There you can catch the Metrocar to the terminal.

Centro is kind of like a hub for all buses. They all go there and spoke out.

I think the airport taxi tax is more like 6 or 7K. That is what you will save by walking two blocks to the main road.

Where are you going. Might be cheaper to try Metrocar. Mrs. Gator and I have found the taxis in Cartagena are the worst in Colombia for a ripoff. Even if you "prepay" they will try and slip in charges like use of the air conditioner, too many bag to fit in the trunk, etc.

Hate to tar them all with the same brush but at least half the time one has hit us up with "extra"charges.

Good info folks. I'm arriving at 12:30PM and trying to head directly to Medellin, if that helps at all.

Why didn't you fly directly to MedellĂn?

My question, too, Tomtom33.

Because I came across a flight that was 380 roundtrip from NYC to CTG and I wouldn't say that I'm yet in a position in life where time is money for me; that is to say, the extra time seemed worthwhile enough to save some cash.

tomtom33 says on May 3, 2008, 17:05:

You do know that the bus from CTG to MDE will take at least 12 hours - if everything goes well. It can take much longer when there are landslides.

jonas says on May 3, 2008, 17:23:

if time is not money....you might have enough time to consider spending one night in CTG and then continue on. I would....but if time is poes then maybe you wanna get to some paisa as quick as possible....

What I have, I do not want to lose, but Where I am I do not want to stay, but those I love, I do not want to leave, but those I know I no longer want to see, but Where I die, I do not want to go;I want to stay where I have never been

All good points. I've done the reverse trip from Medellin to Cartagena and yes, as I recall, that was a painful marathon, although I have done longer (Cucuta to Medellin, never again I hope). Unfortunately, I don't have quite so much time as to be able to stay in Cartagena for the night. And so it is, I'll have to cross my fingers for no landslides.

My novia has made that trip maybe 12 times in the last 4 years. Her worst time was close to 22 hours.

tomtom i think the best is if he takes the taxi either from the airport or main road, I would not recommend the buses they take too long to get to the center and it will be a long way anyway from the center to the terminal. so better to go there direct

Another thing be very careful in the terminal there are quite few thieves at there.

You are right on, Kat, about being careful. The taxi from the airport is the most safe. There has been an increase in crime outside of the tourist zone. And it is not unknown for an entire bus to be robbed in the city.

When you are carrying your passport and credit/ATM cards, you want to be more careful.

Also, helpful points. Thanks guys. TomTom: 12 times?!?!?! Oh good god, that's just not fair. I'm going to hope for a less than 22 hour journey!

I understand that taxis are cheap but most of the time I like public transportation over taxis and rental cars when time and logistics are not a problem.

I've never flown in or out of cartagena before this next week but know the city pretty well having passed thru it a few times in the past

Who knows how I'll feel after a red eye out of Los Angeles arriving in Cartagena at noon the next day. But unless I'm seriously discombobulated upon arrival I will first seek out the bus.

The only time I've taken a taxi in Cartagena before was to transport my food and beer to the harbor for a boat trip to panama.

Buses from the airport to "el centro" are just fine, I got from the airport to el centro in a little under half hour.

tomtom33 says on May 16, 2008, 12:38:

Yeah, and you should get from Centro to the terminal in around one hour and 15 minutes more if you are lucky and it is not rush hour.
