Carnaval in Barranquilla

Suggest you go with low expectations.

I've been to Rio de Janeiro, Salvador da Bahia and also Barranquilla. BAQ is not in the same league, sorry.

Santo Tomas is a pueblo on the south side of Barranquilla that is worth checking out during Carnaval. The day to go is a Saturday.. unfortunately can't remember if it's the Saturday before Carnaval weekend, or the Saturday of Carnaval weekend. I think it's the weekend before, which would make it this coming Saturday.

Good luck finding a hotel room for $200. The Versalles was $150 when I checked 4 months ago but they're probably booked up.

We ended up renting an apartment for the week, and with my two buddies going in on it the cost is only going to be $320 total for each of us! It's got 3 bedrooms and 2 baths.

I can't find any of my friends that can go up for the whole week! Just me! Please send me a message. I love that city but haven't experienced it during the carnaval. I need some travel buddies!

we did find one for about $40 just outside, but you have to rent it for 3 nights, and we will only be there 1, 2 tops. still though, looks like it'd be cheaper than 1 night elsewhere...

I thought carnival was great in Baranquila; but no where near Rio etc. However when I went two years ago, I paid about 110,000 in hotel versailes. Now it is 300,000 pesos a night. Bit of a rip off and that much of an increase in two years....... Crazy!!
