Do they do fireworks in Colombia on Independence Day? I 'frankly' can't remember, even after being around here for a few years, now. And, I kow they were beginning to (at least threaten to) 'crack' down fireworks on New Year's Eve, a few years back... or, so that was the story in Pasto.

It kinda sucks, eh.... you can't go out and about, in your own country on that country's independence day? Maybe they should have an (or call it) Non-Independence Day. They haven't had independence for over forty years now.

Seems a bit overlycautious to me. sounds like one of the paranoids that left the country and now thinks things are running rampant. What mess? Did I miss something or are you referring to the inauguration of president Uribe on August 7th in 2002? On Independence Day in 2005 I went with my niece to the parade on Carrera 7 in Bogotá. It was nice to see, very very very busy... a lot to see. And after that a huge crowd of people on Carrera 7 between Plaza Bolivar and Parque Nacional. That day was ideal for walking in the city because most streets were empty. We walked the whole afternoon from Plaza Bolivar, in an L-form (avoiding deserted places) to Bulevar Niza near Calle 127.
