I have a 2007 Chevy Vivant...nothing special just a car. Actually a Japanese car. The car has Bogotá license plates Last year I paid around $200 for my auto tax which I thought was a complete rip off from what I paid in the U.S.
This year we just got our bill that says within three weeks I have to pay $400. What is this crap all about? Am I paying for Transmillenio by myself?
Does anyone know about this or have similar problems? Is there any appeal process which I am sure is a joke. This is one more explanation why Colombia is considered a Third World Country and will continue to be viewed that way. But then again Colombia doesn’t have AIG and Tim Gietner handing out millions of bonuses to people who failed in their jobs.

Rikito says on Mar 18, 2009, 08:17: Why would it be more expensive in Armenia? And the public transportation in Colombia is dismal at best but certanily not the worst in the world over Greece and Cairo. Actuallly it won't have any impact on Public Transportation. The Pico/Placa idiocy doesn't nor will Pub Trans. You know it and the government knows this. The only way and I mean the only way is not to allow people to drive cars period. The only people it will hurt are people like my brother in law who owns a beater so he can go to work at a factory that has no Public Transportation within five miles. He gets up at 4 am to go to work everyday. ...and so it goes 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

miamimike says on Mar 18, 2009, 08:30: The Highly Sucesssful Bogota Transmilenio Rapid Bus system(public transportation) while in Colombia, is far from 3rd world. And it has removed a lot of cars from the streets in Bogota. Miami is studying the Transmilenio as an economically viable alternative to light rail here in Miami. Anything to get all these cars off our streets and reduce noise and pollution. And Stress,,, No hay Peor Ciego que el que no quiere Ver o Sordo que el que no quiera Oir--Soy Yo, Sarah Palin, Wasilla Alaska. 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

adrimm (Moderator) (☼Travelguide writer) says on Mar 19, 2009, 17:56: Bogota has much less road-space per person and much less road-space per business than anywhere in North America. The idea is make driving as difficult as possible while providing alternatives (ie TransMilenio) so that as the population booms a significant portion moves by public transit and commercial traffic can still function. Bogota had a population of 1 million in 1950 and something like 7 million today.
