Car Rental in Bogota.

I am about to go to Bogota in the next two months I have not been there since 1987, I lived there for 9 years. I have a question about renting a car for a weekend right now I have two reservations one with National Car Rental for 3 days at $265.87 and the other in Budget Rent A Car for $224.58 and I have several questions, Have you had any experience with any of these two companies which one do you recommend?, I just want the car to use it on the weekend to go to the sabana and other towns like Chia, Sopo, Guatavita you know what I mean (for trips inside the city I will be using taxi) I know there are tours and all that but I have to be tied up to their schedule, I want to stop take pictures, eat and sightseeing. My wife is from Barranquilla and my son was born in the U.S and they have not been there, how safe are the roads in terms of police presence what should I avoid, what to do and what not to do, I know Bogota has changed since 1987 and I am expecting to get lost easily are the roads easy to navigate?.

Thanks in advance.

A friend rented a nice Hyundai Tuscon from National for 2 weeks and seemed to do just fine. Driving conditions are about the same with some improvements in towns around Bogota. Watch your speed as they are giving out lot's of speeding tickets. Don't drink and drive. I would have no hesitations at all about driving around these areas.
