Candy stand on a typical PLAZA????? What is this stuff called???

On my last trip to Medellin I was at a plaza, I cannot remember which one. There was a stand with a man beating and stretching this candy like taffy on a wooden pole. It looked like it was pizza dough but it was not, it is candy or taffy. My Medellin friends told me it was a part of a cows leg or something, and by beating it for so long it turns into this stretchy candy. I cannot remember what the name of this candy was???? Can someone help??? The description is wierd but believe me if you put that aside, the stuff actually tastes good. Thanks in advance for any responses...

If it was hard, you are probably referring to "melcocha". Actually I am pretty positive that you are talking about melcocha.

If it was soft,it is gelatina de pata. mmmmm.

gelatina, o jaletina in some places. From cow hooves indeed. The hoof is a good source of collage, a protein also present in large amounts in leather (except in leather it has been tanned). Gelatina is typically sweetened with Panela (Colombian non-refined sugar).

If it was white and soft........I believe it is cow's fat, whipped and mixed with sugar, so I am told....after I ate it.
