Canadian Kidnapped

According to tonight´s TV news if I understood correctly, a Canadian was kidnapped today by the FARC outside of Tulua about an hour and a half north of Cali.

Story is in today´s El Pais:

Seems likely it wasn´t just a lucky shot for the FARC. The Colombian is a cattle rancher with a finca in the area and a likely target. Might of just been very bad luck for his Canadian brother in law. The out skirts of Tuluá towards the Cordillera Central appear to be under fairly constant threat.

I like this... Ice the karate kid gets knife hekl to his throat in Bogota, open season on aussie's, canucks and euros... could this scare hordes of gringos from even thinking of going to Colombia?

its a nice dream... :)

I'm not greedy I just want a lot.

cattle rancher? nobody's heard of this guy... must be as much of a cattle rancher as some people I know that own 10 heads and consider themselves cattle ranchers or have a couple of citric trees and then they're also farmers...
the Canadian doesn't sound like much of a big deal either.

....so this FARC 'targetting' seems like quite the reach, unless if it's one of the quick cash deals that the FARC is only trying to get a few million COPs

Well I thought it was too, not a single person there seemed the least bit concerned that I was clearly a gringo and many seemed quite excited to meet me.

Tulua is fine. It´s the villages to the east up in the Cordillera Central that are dicey.

deathnova, that was funny....Believe your fiancee needed some xtra cash....just kidding, sure she had your best interest at hand. Myself & my wife was to visit our family finca from a distance in P.Tejada...but was forewarned by un-named sources to avoid the area, but will try to make the attempt again soon.

It is a shame, in a country like ours you have to excercise caution. I feeel bad for these people and their families, this should not be happenning anywhere in the world, but the world kinda sucks, please take good care of yourselves when you are out there on Colombia´s roads not everyone is as friendly or well intentioned as they look!
