Can you recommend a cheap, family-oriented (?) hotel in Bogota?

Hi everyone. I'm gonna be in Bogota taking care of some business with Uncle Sam at the embassy in about two months. I was wondering if anybody out there has any recommendations for an economical (please, well below 50 USD/night if possible) hotel where I can stay for about 10 days with my fiancee and my son, who will be about several weeks old by that point. I'd just as soon go to a hostel, but I get the sense that they'd frown on babies. Seems people tend to choose to book through Martha's Apartments/We Love Bogota; are there any other options you'd recommend checking out? Thanks in advance for your help.

Why dont you talk to the http://aptscolombia.com/default.aspx people, they have nice places and might cut you a deal for 10 days, and plus they have kitchens so you all can cook.

I like www.fernandosuites.com. They have nice apartments with all the amenities in a good part of town near good food and shopping. There are a ton of good places to eat literally within walking distance. Their prices are very reasonable.

It isn't all that close to the embassy, but you will have to be there early anyway and a cab ride will take ten minutes at most as thias place is right off autopista norte. Staying near the embassy is not necessary. Besides, that neighborhood around the embassy is nothing special.

Question...are you required to stay at a USA Corporation owned hotel if the taxpayers are paying???

Besides the fernando suites having an awful website. Flash and noise blaring out at you, what are the rates? They look pretty decent.

Thanks bro, that is a good deal, and I will check them out as I have to spend two nights in Bogota in August when I roundrtrip the states from Manizales. I know Bogota well and I like the area.

I have a cousin who is a retired general who lives in the 93 whose door is always open, but I like to do my own thing even though I hang with him most of the time.

It is the best suggestion I have seen so far.

For the record I have stayed in the Platypus hostel in La Candelaria, and it was awesome. But I am old and like nice things now.

When I am there we will have to go and get some beers if your diabetes can handle it. My treat.

Oops I thought I read you posting about it, sorry bro, but my invite is still open for beers and leering at young women.

I will be in Bogota from August 9-11

Appreciate the tips there everyone. Radz, I don't necessarily have a preference for location. I won't be on my own - this will be my first, uh, family, trip - so a moderately safe environment (say on par with Prado in Medellin) would be ideal. I think I really only have to be at the embassy for 1 of the 10 or so days, so being near there isn't crucial.
