CAN NOT LEAVE THE COUNTRY BECAUSE I GOT SUED FOR FOOD OBLIGATION

I can not leave Colombia because I got sued for food’s obligation.

It is a fact that today Colombian authorities have the order to arrest and not let visitors leave the country, when they have been sued by the subject of food for their children or wife.

The article 148 of the code for minors prescribes that any judge could order the DAS (immigration authority) to stop the defendant in any airport and make him pay a bail for getting his freedom again before the trial. This ( in some cases) mean you have to stay in a police station at least 36 hours before being release, of course after paying the money order by the court.

You, as visitor, can not forget that criminal charges can be raised for this topic and you can get a criminal record not only in Colombia but also in international list because the DAS keep a file of every person who has been arrested or processed by the district attorney’s office in Colombia and it can be obtained by other nations.

If you are being sued for food obligation, please contact a lawyer so you can avoid future and bigger legal problems.
