Can I have my cel phone from USA re-programed to work in Colombia? It is a pay and talk phone and not on a contract? Thanks for your advice.

Papi de Alejo says on Aug 14, 2008, 19:02: It's not that simple. If your phone in the US is CDMA like Sprint and Verizon, it will work but only as a Sprint or Verizon phone that's roaming. I don't know about Verizon, but Sprint charges 2.99/minute for international roaming. That is whether you answer your phone or not. Live simply... Love generously... Care deeply... ietk says on Aug 15, 2008, 06:24: Yes you can do it 99% of the times all you have to do is take the phone to be unlocked and that is it, you can use the phone with any network, I took two phones to Colombia and no problem in Bogota they charged me 25000 pesos in Cedritos to unlock the phone, while in Brranquilla they charged me 5000 pesos in the centro by sanandresito.

guacharaca says on Aug 15, 2008, 17:34: Needs to be GSM and the phone can not be so cheap that there is not an unlocking solution. Check on the net if an unlocking solution exists for your phone. If it does, they can "set your phone free" in Colombia for 10k to 20k COP. New chips are as cheap as 3k COP in Colombia. Colombianos: Las armas os han dado independencia, las leyes os daran libertad.
