I heard it is not so easy I heard you must have a lawyer to do so. On the otherside, many Colombian house owners hire lawyers as property managers, my friend in Cali does that as lawyer on the side. She tells me there are many reasons the lawyers do that job.

If I remember correctly, as foreigner you must have a Colombian somehow connected to you for legal reasons. Do a search in the older threads, I recall it being discussed a few times in the past.

If you need a trustworthy lawyer in Bogota, I am sure my friend can help you find one, PM me then.

Any foreigner can own property in Colombia... Buying property in Colombia is an easy straight foreward transaction.

You will need to have colombian sign on your behalf if you do not have a cedula but again no problem.

Your biggest problem will be getting the money into colombia if you do not have a bank account and then documenting the transfer so you can file a form 4 and 11 with the national bank. Otherwise if you sell the property and try and take the money out of the country you could be facing a stiff reparation tax.

Yes-"Can foreigners own property in colombia?" Beware, however, of real estate professionals, first level bankers and lawyers.

Most of them are well meaning but have little or no experience with problems foreigners experience investing in Colombia.

As suggested above, search this site and you will see there are others who have gone before you with varying degrees of success. One person's comments to review is viewpoint.

Yes but it is messy There are about 4 different property taxes to pay when you buy a property. They are not very expensive but there is a quite a lot of paperwork. Sometimes the title is not very good, as if someone has inherited a property there may be a family dispute about the will. Also some properties are difficult to insure as the insurance company may insist on bars on windows, alarms or fire prevention measures.
I know about this because I bought an office for a charity I support which I have let to them for one peso per month rent. It was bought in the name of a Colombian friend and there is a declaration of trust. However Colombian law doesn't really recognise this concept so you have to do it a revocable gift there, and a declaration of trust here, to give complete protection.
