Cambio

The official rate of exchange is about 2500 but the El tiempo lists the rate in the casas de cambio as 2100 and my novia says that currently in Monteria the dollar is fetching only 1000 pesos because the area is flooded with dollars. I told her I didnt think that could be possible. Could it?

Use a Debit Card from your bank and you should get about 2485/1 USD with a fee transaction fee of maybe $2.00 USD.

I live here and only change, for the most part, $$$$$$$ for pesos with select small private business who need dollars to buy US goods and to travel to the USA to make purchases-most are clothing stores.
Other than that is use a debit card on a Miami bank where I have funds deposited.

How about back in the 1980's I can remember 140 pesos to 1 USA

And it is the rate I got from ATM machinesboth for credit card as well as ATM withdrawallls.
