Calling colombia yet again...?

What phone cards do you prfer to call colombia?
I had been happy with "Pingo" for the last couple years, but lately they're horrible. Dropped calls, fail to connect, they can't hear me, I can't hear them, etc.
Who has the 411?

StateSide I have yet to hear how your trip to Bogota was.... What did you think of Colombia? I'm assuming that you are back in the States now, are you planning to go back again?

In Santander Pingo means dick. I get my cards at cloncom.com . I simply search for cards to Colombia, the site gives me some options and I usually pick the cheapest, and so far no problems. For the past few months it's been Sonico cards, at about 4.7 cents a minute.

ColombianoGringo says on Mar 23, 2007, 10:44:

Crossfone If you are calling landlines, you might try Crossfone.com. They have a plan with unlimited calls to landlines anywhere in Colombia for $35 a month. The first three months are $25 a month.

The call quality is excellent and there aren't any hidden fees. Please keep in mind that calls to Colombian cell phones will be billed at 11 cents a minute.

Azul ... Yes I made it back from Bogota. I had a wonderful time. I will definately go back. I stayed in the FAR south side because that is where my GF lives. I was surrounded with women cooking and men passing me beer. I was treated like a King by her loving family. I think I have been adopted! I was greeted at the airport by my GF and her two sisters all in Black mini skirts. Boy did I draw a croud of onlookers. I felt like I was in a Peter Gabriel video. I saw a part of Bogota that most avoid. We drove all over day and night and when we were not being driven by family I got to experience Bogota public transportation. I had absolutely no problems while I was there. The only day I was advised to stay inside was when Bush showed up on Sunday. I was advised that it may be best to just stay home with family and have a few more beers. I think I gained 10 pounds while I was there. I do not think there was one Colombian traditional food that was not prepared for me while I was there. Most of my GF family speak fairly good english and the children got a kick out of helping me learn Spanish. I hated to have to leave! I will start making plans to return to Colombia this summer.

Update I tried Pinplan. Worse quality than Pingo. Made a successful call to a cellphone in Barranquilla, but then could not connect with my novias comcel cell in Cartagena. I'd call with Pingo, talk for a minute or two til the call would drop, then call with pinplan and it would go to a recording, voice mail, or silence. Call right back with pingo, she'd answer and we'd talk a minute or two till it dropped. Went back and forth like this for a while, then said screw it.
In frustration, I went to cloncom and bought a sonico card. Call connected, but she couldn't hear me, and the echo was the worst I've ever heard. I'm back to square one. Does anyone have experience calling a comcel cell phone in cartagena? Ayudame por favor!

Azul says on Mar 23, 2007, 19:38:

For calls to cell phones I use Top Minutes (2.5 cents per min) from www.callingcards.com
But I usually call BQ, not Cartagena....but there probably isn't that much difference between the two. Quality is usually ok, sometime you get a shit connection and have to call again.

StateSide
I am glad you survived the dangerous Bogotá. You are another living proof that Bogotá is not as dangerous as some want to portrait it. And that your hosts where not as cold people as some others portrait people in Bogotá, and what’s more I bet you enjoyed nice weather while in Bogotá.

Have a nice day!!

Phone Service to Colombia and from Colombia I have found calling Cellphones with any cheap service sucks because they all use VOIP. VOIP to Colombian Cellphones are just horrible.. Calling my GF now I installed Vonage in our Apartment in Medellin and thats how we talk now and its great. You just need broadband Internet who I use EPM. You can get 500-700-1500 depending on how much you want to spend and also you need rapid internet anyways because we are spoiled here in the States. If you can get Vonage installed at your GF Apartment and rapid internet you can talk unlimited and the service is awesome. Now I have to call my GF Cellphone use regular Bellsouth Long Distance and pay the rate because I cannot stand echo, silence,or jibbe jabba. To call landlines found most of the VOIP cheap services are good but cellphones suck and I pay a premium with the normal long distance services like ATT-Sprint-Qwest so I can get a good connection.Actually the Sprint Cellphone 4.00 plan plus .20 cents per minute to the cellphone is one of the best connections I have seen to a Colombian Cellphone Very Clear.. You pay what you get.

But don't call cellphones that much anymore because of Vonage in our apartment in Medellin which is very clear she can call me to my office or cellphone and its clear or I can call her to the house and its clear.. 24.99 per month unlimited minutes and you get a United States number in your Medellin House.

Will be down in Medellin April 5 for the Easter Weekend..

I have gotten great call quality when I do call my GF on her cell phone using Crossfone. I call her on her Tigo(Ola) cell in the city and her mother's Comcel when she is in her small hometown.

It kills me to pay 11¢ a minute since I was paying 7.8¢ with Tel3 before they jacked their prices and lowered their call quality. However, Crossfone is honest about their billing. They charge per minute with no connection fees or additional taxes unlike most calling cards that charge in 4 minute increments and tack on all kinds of additional connection and maintenance fees.

This is billed separately from their unlimited calls to landlines. You prepay whatever amount you want for cell phone calls. They also have a full call history online.

Saltador says on Mar 24, 2007, 12:08:

Just used Crossfone. Call was really good quality, a slight "echo", but loud and clear.
Thanks for alleviating my frustration!

Mononoke28 says on Mar 26, 2007, 10:11:

Yep... ... I also use Crossfone and it's all unlimited calls to any land line in Colombia. I wherever, whenever and talk for as long as I want. If I want to call a cell # then I use ETB which I buy from www.1vende.com, those are pretty good.
