Called Colombia for Free Today from USA.

I saw the post about Voip calling for free and tried it:

http://www.voipstunt.com/en/index.html

The quality was excellent. Spoke to people in Barranquilla / Medellin / Bogota and Ibague.

You do need to start with ~ 10 dollars credit in your account. Which you can charge to any credit card. I chose American Express in case I wanted to cancel the charges. But after about 4 hours of calls I was hooked. You can call to about 50 countries free of charge. The only catch is you can only call land lines (cell phones cost). You can also call from Colombia to USA for free too!

Calling from Colombia to USA. Seems to work fine if they can connect at a minimum of 64 kps and their PC meets the minimum requirements:

System Requirements:

In order to use the software, your computer must meet the following minimum system requirements.
Minimum System Requirements:

* PC running Windows XP, 2000 (with SP2)
* 300 MHz processor
* 128 MB RAM
* 10 MB free disk space on your hard drive
* Sound Card and a headset
* Internet Connection broadband: Cable, DSL, with minimum 64 kbit/s up/downstream)

However, in order to take advantage of all of the advanced features of VoipStunt and to experience the best sound quality possible, we highly recommend the following configuration.
Recommended System Requirements:

* PC running Windows XP, 2000 (with SP2)
* 1 GHz processor
* 256 MB RAM
* 30 MB free space on your hard drive
* Full duplex sound card (most sound cards made after 1998), headset
* Cable, DSL or equivalent broadband connection to Internet

I'm confused If the calls are "free", why do you need to start with ten dollars? Could someone set me straight? Thanks!

Looks Like a Scam From their FAQ's

"Question:I want to call one of the free destinations, but I get charged anyway

Answer:You probably have reached the maximum limit of our Fair Use Policy. Please consult our terms of use."

And they do not give you a number that they deem excessive.Below is from the terms of use.

Fair Use Policy
Summary

1. It is important to VoipStunt that all eligible VoipStunt customers are able to access our Services. Accordingly, We have devised a Fair Use Policy which applies to:
(a) usage of VoipStunt free calls
(b) usage of VoIP-In numbers
(c) usage of promotions; and
(d) any other promotions which are advertised by VoipStunt as subject to the Fair Use Policy ("Fair Use Promotions").

2. We reserve the right to vary the terms of the Fair Use Policy from time to time.

3. VoipStunt may rely on the Fair Use Policy where your:
(a) usage of VoipStunt free calls;
(b) usage of your VoIP-In number
(c) participation in a Fair Use Promotion, is excessive or unreasonable, as defined below.
Excessive Use

1. In the case of VoipStunt free calls, there are restrictions on the maximum number of calls and the duration of the calls.

2. In the case of VoipIn numbers, applying for more than one number is excessive use

3. In the case of Fair Use Promotions, what is excessive use will either be advertised by VoipStunt at the time of the relevant promotion or included in this Fair Use Policy prior to the commencement of the relevant promotion.
Unreasonable Use

1. It is unreasonable use of VoipStunt Services where Your use of VoipStunt Services is reasonably considered by VoipStunt to be fraudulent or to adversely affect the VoipStunt Network or other VoipStunt customers' use of or access to a VoipStunt Service or the VoipStunt Network.

2. It is unreasonable use of the free calls is reasonably considered by VoipStunt to be fraudulent or to adversely affect the VoipStunt Network or other VoipStunt customers' use of or access to a VoipStunt Service or the VoipStunt Network.

3. It is unreasonable use of the VoIP-In numbers where it is reasonably considered by VoipStunt to be fraudulent or to adversely affect the VoipStunt Network or other VoipStunt customers' use of or access to a VoipStunt Service or the VoipStunt Network.

4. It is unreasonable use of a Fair Use Promotion where Your participation in a Fair Use Promotion is reasonably considered by VoipStunt to be fraudulent or to adversely affect the VoipStunt network or another VoipStunt customer's use of or access to a VoipStunt service or the VoipStunt network.

5. Among other things, "fraudulent use" includes resupplying a VoipStunt Service without VoipStunt's consent so that someone else may access or use VoipStunt or take advantage of a Fair Use Promotion.
Our rights

1. VoipStunt may charge you a cost-price based rate for any subsequent calls to one of the free destinations, terminate your account, or deny the use of the VoipStunt service or features of it.

Let's hope GregYohn shows up to answer these questions. I asked the same in another thread, and he gave some good answers. I don't believe it's a scam, but it's also not everything it appears to be on the surface. If it's too good to be true...

In the meantime, there's very little risk if you use a credit card. Amex/V/MC will all "charge back" (aka refund) your money if you're defrauded, or the company goes out of business.

Correction not *FREE* - It's ~ 10 cents per day. It's actually 10 Euros which is about 10 dollars. Which will remain on your account for 120 days. You can use that balance to call cell phones or other countries that are not free. If you don't want to pay the 10 Euros you can still use the software for free and make calls to any of the Free countries but your calls will be dropped after 1 minute and you will need to call back. This gets a little frustrating after a few minutes. I've already gotten 10 Euros worth of calls in 2 days. If you haven't tried the service I don't see the point in saying anything negative about it. So the company makes 10 Euros from someone who possibly calls Colombia 10 hours a day for 120 days. Sounds like a bargain to me unless you work for ATT.

Hello! I use VOIPStunt.com, since its price is worth the price.

You can call USA, Canada, and Hong Kong cell phones for free also! I have called WELL BEYOND the basic free use level. I checked and found out that calling my GF's cell phone and also her landline gave me 25+ hours to talk with her and I had just spent about $8.40. Sometimes, the call get's dropped, but its free, unless you use the $.084 price per minute cell phone price.

Let's say you go beyond reasonable use. I DID! Big deal! They charged me $.006 a minute for the rest of the day and then next day I was back to my free calling. One hour with VoipStunt is cheaper than using 1 minute with my Verizon Cell phone.

You need a fast internt connection, if you don't have one then use Yahoo Messenger and pay $.02 a minute to call the USA! I have called other computers with VOIPStunt and Yahoo. Well, computer to computer VOIPStunt is clearer.

I learned of the program from Casa Viena in Cartagena in January. Call alot and easily its worth giving them 10 Euros for your account. They used to charge $.06 a minute to call Colombia landlines, but that was in January!

SCAM INDEED I tried voipstunt, quality very good, however there is not such a thing as FREE CALLS. After loading my account with 10 euros and using it for 3 days, It says I've reached the maximum number of free calls. I'm now only allowed to make toll calls like cellphones in Colombia. Be aware

How many hours a day were you calling for? I've used it for the past 7 days. Calling to various cities in Colombia and using about 2 - 6 hours per day. The software will automatically cut off the call at the 1 hour mark. The message will say "reached the maximum number of free calls". I've just re-dialed and continued on for another hour....etc... I did have a problem last Saturday calling to Barranquilla. I could hear them but they were having problems hearing me. I just called the next day and the problem has cleared. I still have 10 Euros for a balance and I've called 30 + hours to Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Spain, Japan, Germany & UK. I still have 113 days left to call unlimited to 50 + countries. It doesn't seem like a scam to me.

VOIPSTUNT 5 hours, however it is not about the amount of time, it is about the amount of calls, according to their small print terms.

I'm only able to call to the "Non free" destinations. What do you think about it?
