Call me dumb and dumber...

What exactly do you guys mean when you say "prepago girl"; that expression didn't exist when I was there 25 years ago and I guess I've been under a rock all this time.
Just curious,
Ines

prepagado Its means a girl that you are paying to be your girlfriend. You take the girl out to dinner, dancing, movies and you are guaranteed sex. Theres no "oh, not on the first date". Its more convenient for guys that are in Colombia only for a week or two. Who wants only a kiss on the cheek at the end of the night on vacation?

I think its a fairly new term that was invented on PBH. I don't think Colombians use that terminology.

Oooh, I see. Maybe the term is new but the behavior ain't....
Thanks for enlighten me...

It's not that new, and certainly not invented on PBH. We, colombians do use it, pretty much in the sense already described. Often it's just used as a way of calling a fancier prostitute, many times university students or models.

PrePago I first heard it in 2002 in Medellin (long before I read the name on PBH), its quite a new term and it is connected to girls with cel phones, but otherwise it is what Morphus says.

Not sure where they advertise their cel phone numbers, but there are people around Medellin who can put you in contact with them, I asked a few Colombian friends out of curiousty where people get the phone numbers from and that is what they told me.

Never called any myself, yet.

I read an article in a Colombia newspaper that said as many as 25% of the single women in Medellin were prepagos. I doubt it but who knows? The term has been around for a while. When I asked my wife about prepagos she was quite familiar with what it meant.

PBH term?? Hardly ! Litost is right on point. When you describe prostitution using another name.......it's still prostitution. Sugar coating it, does not change the net result.

litost says on Mar 12, 2006, 11:56:

UTC, that sounds absolutely ridiculous. You may mean no harm, but it is very insulting to suggest such a thing. Could you locate the article for us?

utopiacowboy says on Mar 12, 2006, 13:44:

I'll look for it. It had to be in El Colombiano which is the only Colombian newspaper that I read online. I thought it was absurd myself which is why I asked my wife about it.

They were probably very liberal in how they considered someone a pre-pago...like, have you ever had sex with someone because you thought you would get something in return for it, like a new blouse at Studio F or a free dinner and a bottle of Aguardientes for you and your friends at the hip new discoteca?

Rubiazo says on Mar 12, 2006, 15:42:

The way I heard it it's just a euphamism, like saying 'lady of the night' or 'call girl'. I don't think too many of them leave it loose like that. They are paid cash on the barrel, pure and simple.

litost says on Mar 12, 2006, 16:20:

well anyhow, 25% of female college students is a long way from 25% of all single women! still seems too high though, unless the criteria for considering someone a prepago was very wide.

I agree, I would be shocked if the percentage of single women or college students classified as prepagos was anywhere close to 25%.

NewBoy says on Mar 12, 2006, 16:51:

50% There was a large article in El Tiempo (possibly El Colombiano), a year or two ago that said that 50% of women 25 and under that wern't married in Medellin were getting paid for it is some form.

I suspect that the numbers are something like 25-50%.

Even myself Who, with the best on intentions of course, is well known for finding just about anyting negative about Colombia, have a hard time believing that as many as %25 of women in Colombia in Colombia are prepagados.

The only thing I am happy about is that UTC said it, because if I had said it, this thread would surely end up going to page 4 with a 150 plus posts. One thing is certain about G5, I have the ability to attract people to PBH like nobody else.

G5 The article was not about Colombia as a whole, but just Medellin.

Grillas It was explained to me by a Paisa amiga that grillas had sex for the better things in life rather than food and rent. It seems that the term grilla is more pejorative than puta.

Prepago o postpago? All things considered, pay-as-you-go (prepago) has a lot of merits, from the financial side of things, at least you know what it will cost you going into the transaction as opposed to being stuck with a bill after the fact (e.g. divorce or postpago).

Ski Bunnies ?? new blouse at Studio F or a free dinner and a bottle of Aguardientes for you and your friends at the hip new discoteca?

When I lived in Utah during the 80's we called them coke whores when it was item specific. Are there similar names in Colombia?
