Has anyone ever stayed/or been to a barrio called Calima in Cali(north) and Napoles(south) of Cali. I would appreciate if anyone can briefly describe the town. Is it safe to stay there and what activities can I get into while there...
Thanks

If I remember right (correct me Cali residents, atrevido, adela etc.) but I think both barrios are lower middle class, strata 3 or something like that. Isn't Napoles the barrio that's right next to Batallón Pichincha off the quinta? If that's the case it's where my mother-in-law's dressmaker lived. It's small, and a bit dismal looking. Barrio Calima is quite large, parts of it are pretty nice and there's a large supermarket/shopping area there (La 14?). It's about 15 minutes taxi drive from downtown and Avenida Sexta. Desideria (Moderator) says on Mar 1, 2005, 13:27: yes, that's what I thought. I have only a vague memory of Napoles but I remember the very narrow and ill-kempt streets...small and poor-looking houses and I wondered if that barrio wasn't originally built for the army barracks...anyway this lady who made made my mother-in-laws's dresses lived there, they were very poor and she had many small children. For some time I used to send toys and ckothes from the States in big cardboard boxes for my mother-in-law to take there. "When shall we three meet again? Lauthra says on Mar 1, 2005, 13:32: Now I remember Napoles! It's on a bit of a hill, I had to go there on 10th grade, and give some stuff to poor pregnant women, it was quite a poor neighbourhood indeed. Nato (='.'=) 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Gator says on Mar 1, 2005, 14:01: Desi, Lauthra and adela are pretty much correct Right on the money for Barrio Napoles off K-80 in back of the battalion. Housekeeper lived there and I did not think the area safe and did not like to take her home on occasion. But it's really about a 2 or even a 2-. Calima is a straight middle class area and is a estrato 3. It's not too far from Metropolitana del Norte, the cemetery where my wife's mother is buried. I don't remember a LaCatorce there but I really did not get up that way too much. "Credidi pretio parvo emere et magno vendere tibi in animo fuisse!" . 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Qubo says on Mar 1, 2005, 14:54: Thank you so much for your insights regarding the two Barrios. I have an option of staying at either one...So I guess I'll opt for Calima. From what I've been told they are an hour apart from each other. I really appreciate it..this forum is a jewel.......Que esten bien...
