By the center of Cali do you mean the area known as "el Centro". If so, you don't want to stay there. It is dirty and run down. At night, the streets are dangerous and deserted. Try the Avenida Sexta Area or the south, near the Unicentro Mall instead. There are also some nicer hotels to the west of El Centro, along the rio Cali.

One good strategy is to book a room for the first night or two, then go exploring during the day. Stop in at different

Check out my dad's hotel http://nelhenao1.googlepages.com/home. The hotel is by the central bus station. Not exactly in downtown but very close to downtown and the nightspots in "La avenida Sexta". Taxis are cheap and plentiful. Always make sure that the meter is working.

hey Rick - If your budget calls for a good hotel the sheraton in the north on fourth avenue is pretty good but could run about $90 or more a night that's if they still have rooms for the end of the year so you must hurry to reserve a good mid-price hotel. If you're new to Cali, the first time is good to invest in a good place whether the sheraton or not.

Please enjoy while you can. Please do so!
