Cali Warning

Hi all

Just thought i would make you all aware of an incident that occured the other night.

No need to panic but just be aware of this:

I was in a Taxi going to ChipiChape at about 7pm the other night ie when traffic is quite heavy. All of a sudden whiulst we were stopped in traffic i thought i saw a fight in the car ahead. Actually what had happened was some man had run up to the car, smashed the passenger windscreen in and grabbed the owners handbag. She was a woman alone in the car. The man then sprinted off.

It seems he targeted someone alone in a car hoping she would leave something on the passenger seat and unfortunately for her she did.

I was quite relaxed about itut the cali girl i was with was a bit shoced

**it happens I thought it was just common knowledge that you should put your purse under the seat and out of sight. I guess she learned the lesson the hard way.

this kind of robbery is tipical during the night and early hours and is focused for women alone in cars. That happens to my sister in law that is dentist and works during night for emergencies and also happens the very next week to her sister that work at early hours.

If they try to grab my purse I'll let my wife take care of it. She will kick their ass. She has been trained in one of the deadliest arts of fist2cock style which even the Shaolin monks of China don't know about.

If You See Mrs. Gator... on the street she is guarding her purse like a mother lioness guards her cubs. She NEVER carries it slung over her arm but always in front. In the car always on the floor out of sight. Both the purse(s) and the digital camera make a trip to the neighhood shoe repair where we have a thin metal cable sewn in the straps. No razor cutting for us.

The other thing I learned was never wear your watch on the left wrist while driving. Had a hijo de puta take it right off while stopped in traffic in Cali. But then a couple of years ago when were were shopping in Atlanta and leaving Lenox Square Mall had a SOB zip along the access road and snatch two packages as he passed us.

what a dilemma I don't usually carry a purse or a handbag (especially at daytime), it's a small leather backbag instead and when in taxi I have it partially hanging from the shoulder on seat side (not by the window). I can't place it on the floor because I can't risk losing all my money and bringing seven years of economical hardship (vacas flacas) by placing my money on the floor.

I've solved the taxi problem too: I have my own taxista and body guard, he also works on my house when there aren't many people out on the streets. He's going to drive me and my friend to Parque del Café for free and we can sleep in his mother's house in Tebaida. Sorry, guys, he speaks no English and I'm not sharing.

Cheers,
Desi

Gator, I have one of those straps too for my camera, I took it to Colombia. However I thought hmmm.... do I want someone with a knife pissed because they can't cut the strap of my $100 camera? I realized that it was better to lose the camera. So if anyone wants one of these straps I will post it to them. It does make an excellent garotte though.

We'll follow your recommendations. Any other place nearby Coffee Park that's worth a day's visit?
